Egg price gouging

Holy rooster!

I was there (Berkeley Bowl West) again today, and there were plenty of eggs, at non-gouging prices ($4.50/dz for jumbo, $6.79 or so for an 18-pack of large.

Was at the store again today - price jumped from $8.99 for 18 large eggs to $10.39 for 18. This in the course of one week.

Yesterday I was at my closest Sprouts and saw they were completely out of eggs. I wandered across the parking lot to Costco, and they were almost out of eggs, too. The only eggs they had were in the double flats of five dozen, and there were only about four of those left. All the other eggs were gone. So…we now have five dozen eggs in the fridge. I was a little surprised at the cost, though. Five dozen eggs for less than $15, when there’s an apparent shortage in the area.

My MN Costco price today was $3.67 for a dozen, eggs from Iowa. Grocery store price is still $4.99/doz.

I stopped in at my local grocery store and saw they were out of all cartons of eggs, except for the six-pack of large eggs for $3.99.

I’ve commented before that in ShopRite, one would often see a dozen brown eggs cheaper than a half-dozen white eggs, which is why I never bought the half-dozen pack. (This is not true now.) For now, the price of the brown cage-free eggs is holding steady from what it was in September, $3.49. White large eggs are 6/$3.19, 12/$5.99, 18/$8.89, cage-free 18/$4.99 (boy, does this make no sense!), 30/$14.79.

The Bird Flu is a major concern here in Montana, and that may have an effect on the commercial supply.

First, they came for the maple syrup, and I said nothing, because I don’t eat a lot of syrup.

Well, that’s just rude!

Hahahaha
Did you watch The Sticky yet?

No! Putting it on the list. We are drowning in shows over here.

They’ll have to pry the Grade A Dark Robust maple syrup out of my cold, dead hands!

Well, I hope you spoke up when they came for the syrup!

Classic Margo Martindale. And Quebec.

Feed them carrots, corn, and the yolks will come along with the color. I know a lot of egg producers and the gripe is that the cheaper feed is awful. next time you peel carrots, throw them to the chickens. Pumpkins? They’ll pick 'em clean.

Thanks for the reference on this one - hadn’t heard of it, but sounds right up my alley. I love anything with Margo Martindale. Downloading as I write, having finished last night on Netflix Godzilla Minus One (recommend).

We plowed through the first four episodes last night. I love the cast - they all look so familiar to me, but I don’t think I’ve actually seen them in much.
