The Real Jerk was my first exposure to Jerk Chicken and Blackcake. I had tried curry chicken a couple years before.

I started dining at the Real Jerk in 1991, and returned with a Jamaican friend fairly often between 2003 and 2008. I probably dined at the Queen and Broadview location a dozen times. There are only around 10 restaurants in Toronto where I have dined more than 5 times.

The manager will continue to run the restaurant, located on Gerrard E.

The Real Jerk was my first exposure to Jamaican food. I instantly fell in love with their curry chicken roti dinner with rice and peas and coleslaw.

Not sure if I’m dreaming, but I remember one of their locations on Queen West near CityTV. Think it was basement level.
