Ebène opened a few months ago and has been garnering nothing but stellar reviews. The cheffe spent 6.5 years at Arpège with Alain Passard and previously had worked at other places such as Septime. My lunch there this past Saturday was every bit as good as one could hope for. Don’t miss it, if you get the opportunity.
Thanks. This looks lovely, and we will remember it for a future visit.
Have a reservation here Friday night, March 27.
The raie looks great. I catch them a lot when I fish and onlookers are surprised that I keep them.
As I’m sure you know, one sees it not infrequently in French restaurants.
This was absolutely excellent. So glad I booked.
Ébène for lunch Friday:
The amuse radishes were particularly crisp and fresh.
My leek and anchovy starter with a black garlic sauce was very nice, though I thought the sauce was a bit too sweet.
My wife’s perfect egg with seasonal vegetables was spot-on.
Her vegetarian vol-au-vent was very tasty, the wine and onion reduction was particularly impressive.
My quite large portion of duck came with a nice jus and a really tasty cauliflower purée. I wish there had been even more of the purée to go with the duck; I ended up leaving some of the meat on the plate. The duck was not that tender, and so imo would have been much better as thinner slices.
My Saint Nectaire was fine, but would have done better with an accompaniment.
The rhubarb dessert with a pistachio ice was impressive.
My glass of Muscadet was ho hum, The glass of Languedoc went well with the duck.
The 45E lunch menu price is more than fair, though the wines by the glass seem somewhat expensive..
Even though I was not thrilled with any of my 3 dishes (each of my wife’s choices were better), the meal was somehow better than the sum of its parts and I see why onz and others enjoyed it so much. We will certainly return.
