Easter & Passover 2025

Well, yes. Given the work involved…
My grandparents kept kosher and we went there for Passover as children. One of the best memories I have both of them and of my childhood.
Anyway, in those days, you couldn’t get kosher for passover walnuts in bags. You had to buy whole, in the shell. We had to crack them open and chop up the walnut meat, along with all the other chopping. But it was the best thing ever. Eaten at all the meals. Fought over. I don’t know if i could replicate it, or if it was just one of those childhood things. But the ground nuts (i have yet to see any that are just chopped in real pieces and that are kosher for passover and i don’t see the whole ones either now) they sell now, no thanks. Not exactly the healthiest thing anyway, or so I tell myself every year when we don’t make it.
I may try to make passover rolls though. My grandmother’s were wonderful and she wasn’t the best baker either. I think it is knowing how light they should be though.

I bought one of those electric egg steamers (holds 6, there are others for 12) and it’s perfect, you soak in ice water and peels come off easily. Just follow the directions, use straight from the fridge.

Me neither. And it doesnt seem to be available in the UK, which is odd. And, even odder is that its not mentioned on their website or Wikipedia page.

FWIW, I’m a big fan of their Chocolate Orange.

Greek Easter celebrations can be so much fun. A friend’s family used to have one that would go from morning until evening. Guests came and went all day, like a joyful open house.

I was going to post the same thing. I’m not a gadget fan, but this one really works!

Fennel and cinnamon in this Portuguese Easter Bread. Some call for anise.

I liked making a version of this last Easter

I could eat spinach pie every day. I’ll probably still make my spanakopita on Easter Sunday. Maybe I’ll make torta pasqualina the week after Easter.

After much mulling, I decided to bake.

Couldn’t find enough eggs to make quiches for a crowd, so I’ve made what I’m calling Spanakopita Loaves — spinach, feta, and cheddar mini loaves to be sliced up and served either with the cheese board or alongside the main meal.

Also baked Scandi Tiger cake / Tigerkaka — marbled loaf cake. Fingers crossed it looks as intended when sliced :joy::crossed_fingers:t3:

(Will be hunting for eggs before the second gathering next weekend, as I can’t take spanakopita bread to a scratch spanakopita group, but I can take bite sized quiches for snacking!)

Are eggs that rare there?

We still have limited supply and pricing issues

I should just bring some back with me this weekend, now that I think about it

Chag sameach, Onions!

I read “Easter Crack” and thought it would be about the Greek custom where two people crack their Easter eggs against each other, and the uncracked one wins.
