“You guys” as a country do do Valentine’s although it isnt a mega commercial thing. But expect florists (and floristry sections in supermarkets) to be overrun with very expensive red roses (most probably imported from one African country or another, where it is much more profitable to grow roses for export than food for locals to eat) . And don’t expect to get a table at any decent restaurant, as a walk-in.

“You guys”, as Mrs H & I, have never done Valentine’s Day at all.

Valentine’s Day is a pretty big deal for Sunshine. I always shop early and bake her a cake.
Here is her present… all I need to do is wrap it.

And, I’ll bake her a cake (similar to this one) which is from last year.

I saw Easter merchandise at Sam’s before Christmas.

I saw the start of Christmas stuff in early September mixed in with Halloween and some Thanksgiving-y type stuff. The Valentine’s stuff started to come out right after Thanksgiving. Over-commercialization at its worst.

That’s very sweet. I like Valentine’s Day, too. It’s a good excuse to bake something special and decorate with lots of hearts and flowers - a cheer up when it’s cold and you’ve had enough of winter.

I’ve seen them here, too. Maybe it’s a Commonwealth thing.

You can find Crème Eggs and MiniEggs 9 months of the year, it seems.

I try not to eat any until Easter Sunday, and they’re always marketed most heavily during Lent. LOL.

Can’t abide Creme Eggs. It’s a texture thing.

But lurve Mini Eggs. That’s also a texture thing

I like the Laura Secord Crème Egg which has a much firmer texture relative to the texture in a Cadbury Cream Egg. I buy the Laura Secord Cream Egg on Easter Monday, when it’s half price. :rofl:

I’d be fine with the firmer texture but I don’t think I’ve ever seen other than Cadbury.

The main Crème eggs here are Cadbury, Laura Secord and some independent smaller batch chocolatiers. There are also Snickers eggs, Caramilk eggs, Mars eggs, Peanut Butter eggs, orange creme eggs (which I think are also found in the UK, they taste like Quality Street orange creams) and Kinder eggs, as well others I’m forgetting.

I’m reminding myself of the Nut Game in Best in Show.

I wish there were other brands of creme egg available in the US besides Cadbury’s.

Ha! Here before Valentine’s D, there is still Epiphany King cake and ciders to sell to celebrate in January in supermarkets ( and bakeries)…

In Baltimore, it was (and I guess may still be) Mary Sue Easter Eggs.

I will admit to never having eaten one. The texture creeps me out.

The King Cake in Europe is especially for Epiphany, January 5th.

Whereas New Orleans King Cake, initially made for Epiphany, which is why there’s a tiny lucky plastic Jesus or lucky almond symbolizing Jesus hidden somewhere in the dough, is now associated more with Mardi Gras in Louisiana and the rest of the States.

The global King Cake eating period runs from January right up until Shrove Tuesday.

I’m also a little annoyed by Hot Cross Buns being available all year- round, and during Lent. I don’t eat them until Good Friday.

I was surprised that the Portugese King Cake, also made for Epiphany, is already sold and eaten before Christmas. I bought one this year for Christmas.
It’s more focused on fruit to than the 2 main types of French King Cakes. The Louisiana King Cake looks like colourful Kringle.
