[Durham] Tealicious

We spotted this lovely little place near to our hotel. It’s a proper, old-fashioned tearoom. There’s a short sandwich menu at lunchtime but their main business is tea and cake. A good range of teas, with coffee from Taylors of Harrogate. And a blackboard of the day’s cakes. A treacle, ginger and lime sponge was fab. The treacle and ginger had been baked into the sponge, giving it a richness whilst still being light. And there was a layer of sharp lime curd and another of cream. A fruit scone with jam and cream was exactly how you hope it will be. They sell the Mrs Darlington range of preserves and use them in the cakes, so certainly a decent enough quality there.

Made for a very handy pit-stop.
