I wonder if you taste the coconut oil in the end product. As one who dislikes the smell and taste of coconut oil, that would be a no-go for me.
Reminds me of a woman at work who told me about the great truffles she made, and when I asked about tempering, she had no idea what I was talking about. The next time we talked, she was confused as to why her next attempt did not work.
Coconut oil comes in two basic forms. The less processed (“unprocessed”) still smells and tastes of coconut.
Processed coconut oil is absolutely odorless and tasteless. I use it to make homemade Magic Shell.
Both are available in grocery stores.
A little square of Dubai chocolate, about 2cm square, cost $5.00 at the Middle East Market yesterday. I did try it, and it was ok, nothing world-altering for me.
I really think it depends on where you get it. Freshly made it’s pretty fantastic, TBH.
Thanks for the info. I did not know about the processed oil.
I figure here is the space to share what Lidl just advertised to me in its email of this week’s offers.
Huh. Weird. So it’s chocolate, pistachio cream and kadaif all turned into a spread?
Are you going to try it and report back?
Some positive write ups in small local papers.
Can’t find an ingredient list anywhere. I’d be interested to see if it contains palm oil.
Sunflower and palm oil (that I could see).
Ofc. I bought a jar will prepare some thoughts.
Only one jar? Looks like the hype is such you could have bought your allowance of 3 and flogged the remaining 2 on the black market!
It’s dark chocolate, which is a relatively rare variation of the Dubai chocolate trend. I’d go for it.
They sold out of it “within a day” around here.

Trend chasers gotta chase trends!
To report back: It’s nice. It is sweet and the flavours are like those of other dubai chocolates/dubai chocolate inspired baked goods I’ve tried. I love that it has the kadayif mixed in because I’m all for that texture. I’m thinking about how to eat it now.
I’m wondering how quickly it might sell out. I’ll drop by Lidl tomorrow and check it.
I swear though, it’s everywhere. I was in a pound shop today and saw a bar or 1.50. The OffBrandIceland had some at the counter. And the corner shop has an array that include hazelnut and biscoff variations.
I don’t want to fight it since I love the texture and I love pistachios, but it also feels kind of bonkers.
Is the kadayif still crispy in the spread?
Enjoy while it lasts, I say.
This, too, shall pass
Yep. I should probably be concerned but I love it.
