Dubai Chocolate Bar at Lily's in Vienna, VA

It will probably not shock you to know I do not keep up with trends.

However, I do live with a twenty-something who does, so we were sent by Tik Tok to seek out a Dubai Chocolate Bar which is made at Lily’s Chocolate and Coffee in Vienna. The rest of the world (and their brothers) also found out, so at 8:30pm on a cold, rainy night, many folks tried to cram into this tiny shop.

Dubai Chocolate Bars (DBC) are made commercially, so you could order one for about $26 plus shipping, but we were thinking more along the lines of instant gratification.

And when we found out Lily’s also makes loukamades, we knew we had to take the plunge.

We both had loukamades in Athens, so we were excited to try them here. They have both traditional (syrup) and modern with gooey, rich toppings. We opted for the pistachio topping.

The locma, as they call it here, is probably as good as in Athens, so that is a major accomplishment.

The DBC is milk chocolate, so too sweet for my taste. We got a small one for about $16.

Two more photos. First, the toppings include milk chocolate, dark chocolate, ruby (strawberry chocolate), and pistachio. I would say the pistachio is not as sweet as the one in Athens. If you eat the locma quickly - the idea is to have it while it’s still warm- then it keeps the texture. These are made to order so it takes a while.

Almost everyone was getting a cup of Dubai Chocolate Covered Strawberries. They ladle on pistachio, chocolate, and sprinkle on crushed phyllo and crushed pistachio. This is added in layers, two rounds each, though in the end it’s the top layer you see in the photo:
