Hi! I will be in downtown Durham this weekend and was hoping to get some recommendations for dinner and breakfast. I like southern and new southern cuisine, but I’m open to anything that y’all have enjoyed. (I tend towards the not too fancy.) I’m also a little obsessed with biscuits and would love to find some good ones. (I’m open to Local and regional chains)
If you can do a late breakfast, Rue Cler has a brunch on Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 am (if you go, get there early, it’s very popular). http://www.ruecler-durham.com/
Parker and Otis is a gourmet food and sundries store that also serves breakfast and lunch:
Only Burger on the American Tobacco campus also serves breakfast: http://onlyburger.com/only-burger-american-tobacco/
The Federal serves upscale bar food: http://www.thefederal.net/menu/
One of my favorite places downtown is Dos Perros: http://dosperrosrestaurant.com/menus/dinner/
Mateo is very popular, and very good, but you might need a reservation: http://mateotapas.com/menus.htm
There’s also Blu Seafood: http://bluseafoodandbar.com/menu
Thanks! This list is perfect.
Thanks again for the recommendations. We ended up at Dos Perros for dinner and it was great. I had Carne Asada with chimichurri and Mr. Librarian had a slow roasted pork dish. The drinks were awesome, I had a drink with tequila and Campari that was the perfect amount of bitter and then we had churros for dessert.
We ended up stopping at Parker and Otis not to eat but to check out the store. One jar of strawberry rhubarb rose preserves and one jar of spicy pickled watermelon rind later I was ready to move to Durham just to be close to that store.
Didn’t end up doing brunch, although Rue Cler was very tempting. Ended up grabbing a country ham biscuit at Biscuitville on the way to Greensboro and it gave me my country ham fix for this trip.
Glad you enjoyed Dos Perros (and Durham!). The slow roasted pork dishes there are the bomb.
