As someone who has never ever dipped pizza I found this to be just wrong. Am I too old, or…….?

I’ve never heard of pizza dipping before now. I don’t know if that’s because I’ve lived a sheltered life or it just isnt a thing in this part of the world.
Many years ago, I remember one pizza chain that would sell a garlic butter sauce for dipping the crust (after you ate the meat/cheese part), but not the actual pizza.
I don’t think I would enjoy dipping the pizza in anything. I would think that would muddle the flavor of the pizza??
No thank you.
This seems to be an invented process by Papa John’s to sell more pizza. I wouldn’t think that a “good” pizza would need additional “prep/dipping” to the pizza at the table.
‘flight of four sauces’ - gimme a break!
Well it is Papa John’s pizza. Never known for being high quality. Perhaps marginally better than Little Caesar. Maybe the sauce hides how bad a pizza it is. With a proper NY or NH pizza being what I eat on a regular basis, why in the world would I need to put anything on it?
The sad thing this shows is that most people haven’t ever had a good pizza. Sort of the reminds me of the fact that most people think sushi is a roll of 6 different kinds of fish covered in mayo and sticky brown stuff.
I don’t dip good pizza in anything, but if I’m forced to eat Papa John’s, then yes, because it is TERRIBLE.
My 6 year-old grandson won’t eat much more than Domino’s plain or pepperoni pizza for dinner. (Don’t judge his parents please.). On the rare occasion when I’m with him, and there’s no other choice, I’ve had to eat some of it. The dipping thing may have some value here.
Isn’t this just an extension of the ranch dressing craze?
I wonder how many calories are added with the dipping sauces??
Likely yes, but do people actually dip something like pizza in ranch? I was never a cold pizza for breakfast (or any other time) person so it’s a foreign concept.
Doesn’t everyone?
I order the dip, and they ask if I want some pizza to dip it in.
It’s like free cheesy breadsticks with “marinara” dipping sauce with your pizza order.
Like… want some dough with cheese and tomato sauce to go with your pizza?
I don’t dip. The pizza from mom and pop places around here is perfectly fine on its own, including the crusts.
Sorry. Not buyin it.
Several pizzerias here in Ontario include dipping sauces when I order pizza. I have never used any of them.
Ranch as a dip is an option for one pizzeria we visit.
Sacrilege but whatever floats yer boat.
If it’s flavorless, then yes, I’ll use the garlic dip for the crust. I’d rather just avoid Papa John’s though. Little Caesar’s is way worse IMO – every element lacks flavor.
I honestly can’t believe this is actually an issue for people – dipping pizza in a sauce.
It’s common practice, not just in fast food chain places.
Many curated, chef-driven, pizzerias do this often.
Just in CA:
This is a total non-issue.
People need to get out more.
