District Kitchen Malden MA

The District Kitchen in Malden opened in April in what for a short while housed a very mediocre Mexican restaurant. It turns out that they are a sister restaurant of All Seasons Table that is close by but with a different menu. I stopped by for lunch today and was very impressed by the sleek and modern interior. I had an excellent Banh Mi that was loaded with grilled pork. I also tried the Taiwanese Pork Belly Bun that was excellent and interesting. They also have lunch specials that don’t show up on their website. Their prices are very reasonable especially for the quality of their food. Check their website for parking instructions.

Very close to the Super 88. Nice!

and Dom’s.

Sometimes, a trifecta of goodness is achieved.

What bread are they using ? And do they only have grilled pork or more variety as dac biet, xa xiu or ca moi ? (If not any suggestions where to get those ?)

“Traditional Vietnamese sub consisting of grilled pork or chicken, mayo, cilantro, cucumbers, jalapenos, pickled carrots & daikon, dash of house savory sauce”. They are using the proper french rolls.

But the important point is if they used rice flour for the rolls/(or better baguette) to get the right texture and flavor

banh mi ba le and king do baguette and pastry on dot ave in dorchester

Anyone been here since 2017? We’re thinking of taking the sprouts to Boda Borg tomorrow and looking for somewhere to eat in Malden. Their current menu lists a bunch of fish dishes in the $40-50 range, so I’d want to know what we’re getting into before dining here. Open to other Malden suggestions.

Those fish dishes in that price range are hotpot style. They do a Sunday Brunch - dim sum today. Their dumplings - especially soup dumplings are good. Next door is their sister restaurant BabBam Chicken https://www.bambamchicken.com depends on what you are looking for - food/price points. Tenoch https://tenoch-malden.square.site/#26at 13 Pleasant St is close to BodaBorg. While i haven’t been very recently Darna is now Levant Delight for Halal food from guess where ?, the levant. https://www.levantdelightrestaurant.com Pleasant Street has many options.

One more thought - if a bowl of Pho sounds good on a cold day like today - two options, one close to BodaBorg -https://phobistromalden.com/our-menu/ and a short drive on Rte 60 (Eastern Avenue toward Revere) Pho Eastern in a strip mall with parking https://phoeastern.com/menu

We ended up walking over to Crying Thaiger, which we’d been to years ago and which did not disappoint. Bam Bam chicken looks delicious and like it might hit the spot if we do a repeat trip to solve some of those Boda Borg rooms we failed at! Do you know however whether any of their chicken can be made gluten free, or at least gluten-friendly (ie not necessarily allergy safe but no wheat flour used in the dish)?

Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to your question. I did find an email address on their website Bambamchickenmalden@gmail.com where you can ask. My suspicion from looking closely at the menu is only those chicken and possibly pork choices that are not breaded or fried would be a safe choice. Depending on how gluten effects you or a member of your family I’d also ask if there are separate fryers used for the chicken and the french fries.
Happy to hear you went and enjoyed Crying Thaiger. Seems the few times I’ve wanted to stop by it’s been a Tuesday. They’re closed. What dishes did you enjoy ? I believe Eater Boston recently listed CT in their Thai restaurants list.
