I think the board setup here helps in similar fashion, with the regional boards more populated by those looking for local or travel fare. More than those who appear to be mainly interested in cooking at home, I mean, and of course there is some cross pollination.
I barely notice the regional boards because my local area and areas most frequently traveled aren’t really represented. Except Peter’s interesting and beautifully photographed stuff on KL, Penang, HK, Singapore.
I usually forget to “like” posts that I like. actually like the commentary of just about everybody on here. many times I may disagree; but I’m a liker, not a fighter…'til I get psst.
I’m sure we’ve all had those days when nothing goes right and you just feel defeated.
You put dinner on the table and your partner smiles and tells you how much they really like it. Then you post a picture of that dinner and it quickly gets 10 likes. And that wonderful little message comes in about earning a “Nice Reply”. For me, it just makes me feel a little better.
Same. It’s an acknowledging part of the community. I just retrain from using likes that emphasize dislike. Doing so escalates arguing more than difference of opinion. Commenting respectively is better.
Exactly. I try to use likes for good. Sometimes I fail. Sometimes, I like aggressively.
They validate people. We all could use a little virtual like every so often.
But I also feel the sting when other people are liking the hell out of another post that’s aimed in a less friendly way.
People are complicated and so are their liking agendas. Sometimes.
Doesn’t it all boil down to a Friend Foe ethic?
Are you with me or against me?
This whole HO is a microcosm, ain’t it?
Even if the thumps up or hearts or forks go away, there will be words or something else used to say I’m with ya, eww gross, whatever. That’s part of the discussion part of the discussion board. Are we going to be civil with our likes and validations? That’s another matter.
I’m not sure what either of you are saying, but I generally try not to overthink things.
It’s just food. We should be happy about the fact that we have the time, money & resources to make our favorite dishes, seek out thrilling restaurant meals, and discuss them at length with other like-minded folks in this forum.
We are an incredibly privileged & welcoming community. That’s something to be grateful for.
Bingo. It’s not complicated unless we engage. I leave it up to the appetite for verbal dancing. Most days I pivot.
My preference is for fun and learning from each other which I enjoy very much.
This community is aces.
