Since no one else has responded, I’ll try to help. Caveat: I’m only familiar with the area south on Route 9.
If you’re looking for something fancy, The Copper Beech inn in Ivoryton is ~30 minutes away (right down Route 9). I haven’t eaten there in many years but online reviews still seem to be good. They also have a less expensive bistro called Pip’s with good reviews.
There also seem to be some good places in Chester, CT.
Have you looked at places around Hartford? Other than the traffic getting there, it looks like it could be within 30 minutes.
I appreciate your suggestions. We’re only a few minutes’ drive from Middletown, and there are several good options for us there. We’ve chosen a restaurant called Luce for tonight.
