Dill Pickle Pizza

Love, love, LOVE pickle pizza. The now sadly defunct Detroit-style pizza place made a fantastic rendition of it, with a garlicky cream sauce and an abundance of dill pickles and pickled onion.

Okay - wasn’t sure where to post this but this thread seems right . . . .

This is a legit pizza competition from Spain that just happened . . . and these are the top two winners from the Alicante region. . . . . what are people doing to pizza (for the record, this contest happened BEFORE April 1st  ). So your dream pizza may exist out there somewhere?!? :face_vomiting: (I don’t like to yuck someone else’s yum but this winner doesn’t sound good to me at all)

This is the Michigan Detroit pizzeria, whose Emmy-winning dish has won over the palates of Alicante residents and has so far become the best pizza in Spain. Its ingredients include the intense flavor of American Black Angus beef, combined with smoked cheddar cheese, homemade caramelized onions, bacon bits, pickled gherkins, Korean sauce, and maple syrup.

Second place in the competition went to the Ché Ragazzi pizzeria in Alicante, thanks to its “Zucca e fonduta” dish, which includes pumpkin cream, Gorgonzola cheese, typical Italian cured meat from Amatrice, Parmesan cheese fondue, freshly ground black pepper, and wildflowers.

I wouldn’t want either of those & stick to my garlic dill pickle pizza tankyouberrymuch

I’ve been meaning to try one of the dill pickle pizzas that’s been recommended in Toronto. There are at least half a dozen better pizza places offering it, including Beast Pizza

, Slowhand,

and Conspiracy Pizza.

The winner sounds like a weird riff on the bacon cheeseburger gimmick pizzas you see on some menus.

Actually… we had a pretty good version of a Big Mac pizza in PGH a couple years ago. My PIC liked it more than I did.

And the Detroit-style π place had one on the menu as well, but the pickle pizza was much better

Local place around here does a bacon cheeseburger one that was pretty good. Buffalo chicken too.

In DC, Tigerella (now closed) served a pickle pizza with pickled vegetables:

Pickle PIe

Here’s what I wrote:

What came out was visually stunning, had great texture, powerful flavor, strong aroma, and is one of the best things I’ve eaten in a long time. A true HO delight.

Don’t expect a traditional pizza. It is a tall, airy bread with black crusty sides (like a Chicago deep dish pizza when they cook it with the cheese draped over the sides). The topping is a garlic cream and then pickled vegetable with enough vinegar aroma to knock you over, plus some sweetness as well. It is a dazzler.

The result is airy, chewy, crispy, and pungent. I will be thinking about this for a long time.

alright - I’m going to have to track down a pickle pizza and give it a try . . . a little nervous (not going to lie) but I’ll try it.

I never noticed our regular pizza spot , Byron Pizza, in London, ON, also serves one.

There are also some dill pickle cheeseburger pizzas around town. I’ve not tried any of those, either. Richmoors sells one of those. I don’t want ketchup or mustard on my pizza, so I’m not likely to order their version
Richmoors

Not all pickle πs are created the same. Don’t blame us if it doesn’t live up to the hype

I didn’t make note of the cheese, and I don’t remember. I can’t find any reference to cheese on this pizza from other reviews or their menu, and I didn’t miss it. The blackened crust on the side was very chewy and cheese-y. But maybe no actual cheese was harmed in the making of this…
