Diamond Head General Store [San Bruno, CA]

all manner of Hawaiian food and snacks. I’ve never been to Hawaii, but everything seemed more “authentic” than most Hawaiian places around. The poke bowl has real seaweed and pickled onions - this is the Hawaiian Style Ahi Poke (Fresh Ahi Tuna, Hawaiian Sea Salt, Chili Flake, Sesame, Onions, Kukui Nut, Ogo - over rice, $27. The Kalua Pork plate lunch ($18) was good, if a bit bland (I think a lot of places use liquid smoke in their kalua pork - but not here). Shave Ice ($8) was really good. One thing I’ll note is that the portions are huge. I didn’t even make a dent in the poke bowl, and the same with the kalua pork plate. I would advise splitting a plate lunch and shave ice between two people. I want to go back and try the garlic shrimp lunch plate.

Stopped in for a Kalua pork plate and shave ice. Gotta say everything in the pork plate seemed under seasoned. Shave ice was great.

I’m going to have to make a stop for the Cook Kwees cookies, coconut and mac nut. See them in SoCal once in a while, never in the Bay Area.
