Día de Muertos — How are you celebrating?

We are lucky to have a sizable Mexican population in Philly, so tomorrow marks the first annual celebration along the South 9th Street Italian market, where many Mexican businesses have popped up in the last few years.

The day-long event features Aztec dancers and Mariachi, food, drinks, and a procession down 9th street.

Hoping for mole, tacos, pan de muertos!

I might get take-out tamales tomorrow.

I made these 4 years ago.

I used this recipe

Dia de los Muertos altars at my favorite local supermarket chain here in Las Vegas, “La Bonita”.

Huh. Guess we have a dearth of users here with a Hispanic or Mexican background.

Well, this German and her Armenian PIC swung by the festivities on their way home from a long walk around Center City.

A crowd of happy faces on 9th, with various stands hawking street corn, pan de muertos, guac, and other things.

It had been a while since our very light lunch, so we decided to get in line at a taco stand we’d seen at another recent festival.

The pastor and quesabirria tacos looked great, but I found them to be pretty underwhelming. Coulda used some hot sauce, more cilantro, and the meats were just not very flavorful. Guess I’m crossing that Mexican resto off of my Philly Eatz list :woman_shrugging:

With Mexican food. I not Hispanic but my son is and also my extended family. I grew up in California and love Mexican food so I make it often. Tonight I had chicken enchiladas from the freezer with a salsa verde and Manchego cheese. Cilantro rice, avocado and radishes. There were Margaritas. The tortillas disintegrated so it was more like enchilada mush but it still tasted good.

The roomate went out to brekky with the dotter’s posslq and brought home the breakfast enchilada that I swoon over. Some shrinkflation has hit this particular restaurant. Darn. Gotta start making my own. I can do it.
