Di Fara’s frozen pizza

So this showed up at ShopRite in Freehold & for about 8 bucks and I bought it
The crust was good but it was still frozen pizza not so different than any other Thought I was onto something good not something mediocre

Thanks for taking one for the team. I’m always keeping my eyes peeled for a tolerable frozen pizza, but, so far, Rao’s is the only one that came close. I hear Screaming Sicilian is good, but I’ve never tried it.

Same experience. I even tried doctoring it up but it didn’t help.

I always have good pepperoni on hand & was tempted to doctor the pie but wanted to be fair to a supposed legend.

I had a Di Fara frozen pizza from Shoprite in January. It wasn’t pepperoni – was labeled “Classic” and essentially a margherita pizza (IIRC). My assessment was much the same as ragtop’s – fine for a supermarket frozen pizza, but not special (I haven’t looked to buy another since).

My PIC grabbed a Rao’s pepperoni pie when he was bach’ing it last week. Not too terrible, but at $11 or 12.99 I might as well order a proper pie for takeout/delivery :woman_shrugging:t3:

Yea, frozen pizza is usually disappointing and the 25 pie shops within two miles of me are often cheaper and certainly fresher. For me it’s the crust issue. Par baked bread frozen never tastes fresh once heated at high temps.

My sister buys pies from Krispy Pizza and freezes slices in portions. Reheats on the stove in cast iron. I Gotta think ahead!

My son lives in the Australian Outback he killed me for buying this or any frozen pizza with so many good options nearby.

Can you blame him?

Not at all, he’s learned how to make a pretty decent pizza from scratch due to his location so he has good standing about avoiding frozen supermarket pizza

American Flatbread (Shoprite, Whole Foods) is good.

I’ve given up on frozen pizza and flatbread. I can’t say any of the brands I have tried or grew up on sub for my own or better yet fresh. If I’m desperate for a pizza hit and literally have no access (never) I’d sub a meatball Parm sandwich instead. I always have the makings for that.

Frozen American Flatbread is better than most. However, we live within a few miles an American Flatbread in Somerville, MA, so we only keep one in the freezer for when we are desperate to eat at home and don’t want to go out.

The only time I had frozen pizza in my freezer was during the pandemic , loved Tombstone ( cheapest & bottom of the barrel ingredients ) & a few different styles of DiGiorno
I bought the Di Fara strictly on its Brooklyn legacy
Even in my earlier years living where I did good slice shops were abundant & cheap . So many 2 slices & a small Coke dinners back in the day

As it turns out, I just saw they honored Dom by renaming E. 15th St Domenico DeMarco Way. If this is a new product I wonder if the launch was timed around this.
