Dealcoholized Wine

I’m a fairly recent convert to 0.5% wine. After years of avoidance, I’ve managed to find a couple of reds that do the job. I’m too afraid to try whites being skeptical of finding any with the necessary craftsmanship.

Do any of you have a favourite? Mine are Noughty Rouge Syrah and Luminara Napa Valley Blend. I’d post the Noughty link too, but it seems like they’re new to online advertising.

I tried NA wines when I was pregnant with my son and decided that not drinking at all was less of a disappointment.

How long ago was that? Which ones did you try?

Trader Joe’s had a selection a while back, but I had assumed they’d not be good and didn’t bother to try any. They were about $20 a bottle iirc. There are likely reviews online.

There are online reviews. Many seem made by self-interested vendors. I’d prefer to hear from the Hungry Onions. The LCBO, Canada’s largest liquor retailer, is doing an incredibly poor job of stocking anything worth drinking. If I have to use independent shops, I’d like to know more about the merch.

Im hopeful that it’s improved over 20 years …i dont remember which brands…I remember trying both reds and whites and just giving up because they ranged from insipid to unpleasant.

Oh yeah, those days when you could only find the nasty Carl Jung stuff. Nope, it ain’t that anymore. There is a vast difference in taste between alcohol-free and dealcoholized wine. And of course technology marches forward. F’rinstance…

@Googs I haven’t stepped inside an LCBO in over a year so I’m not sure what their non alcoholic drink selection is like. I’m still staking out stores that have a decent selection. I only tried two non alcoholic wines so far - a white and a rosé - and they were both Presidents Choice and tasted like grape juice. Needless to say I won’t be buying them again  The only non-alcoholic drinks I’ve been drinking is beer and so far Partake and Athletic are my faves. Other than that I drink mostly tonic water and kombucha. I enjoy sparkling water as well. (As you can tell I like bubbles!)

There’s a store in Ottawa called Knoyta and they only sell non alcoholic drinks (wine, beer, mocktails, etc). I haven’t been there yet but apparently their selection of NA wines are nice. This might not be helpful if you don’t live here but maybe browsing their selection might give you an idea of what’s available?

@ottawaoperadiva here in Durham Region, we have With Grace Marketplace. The owner, Dana, is the entire reason I found respect for non-alcoholic drinks. It is her palate that brought good wines, beers, and spirits to my table. Though she no longer has a storefront, you can find With Grace at farmers’ markets and, of course, shop online. If anyone in my neck of the woods wants to learn more before making the leap, I highly recommend you seek her out.

Frustrated with grocery and LCBO store selections, I looked farther afield. Not surprisingly, Canadian you-ring-we-bring Well.ca has the largest selection I’ve seen. My experience with them was good. Easy to order, quick delivery, securely packed, and only a $35.00 threshold to get to free delivery. If you find one you like and it runs out, you can get a notification when it’s back in stock.
