I’ve been. Not impressed, but I look forward to hear what you think.
I did go and gave the Campaign for Real Barbecue certification that they cook exclusively with wood. I enjoyed the pork – they have a real NC vinegar and pepper sauce – and the brisket, wigs was from the lean end but was as tender as it gets. The star of the show was their pastrami – beautifully seasoned and smoked – which they have on Friday and Saturday. Maybe the best pastrami in the area. They usually serve is as a no-cheese Reuben on huge pieces of grilled seeded rye (just sauerkraut and Russian dressing, but I got it neat with mustard – a whole grain mustard that I thought might be Pommery. They also were grilling some very good looking chicken thighs.
Sounds great! I will have to revisit. I get out that way for the Middleburg Film Festival.
Alas, I was too full to continue on to Arno’s
Great may be pushing it - except the pastrami. The other stuff certainly was good
Heaven forfend! John when you are within shouting range of Arno you have to visit Arno! The pastries will keep.
My family wants to try Hammerdown. Will go for pastrami and brisket!
I guess I’ll have to go back. Sigh!
Has anyone tried the Hawaiian BBQ place in Annandale?
I just looked up the menu. For the purpose of this thread, I don’t think we are including places that simply use a marinade or a pour over sauce to create the bbq flavor. I haven’t been.
Their website says they have locations worldwide!
I agree it probably doesn’t qualify as “barbecue,” but, that said, the Hawaiians on this Reddit thread seem pretty excited that L&L has come to the DC area.

Slow roasted pork tends to be good.
Got to 2Fifty Texas Barbecue in Mount Vernon Square today. Hope I got the right thing — pastrami brisket sando. We got several sides; I enjoyed the fried plantains, mac & cheese, and sweet potato mash. Brisket beans were flavorless; mango salad was ok.
@johntannerbbq did I do ok?
Looks ultra-fantastic. Maybe they will continue to have that as a Thursday special to conform with their Maryland location.
Last time I inquired, they wouldn’t commit to announcing their specials at Mt Vernon. You just had to show up. Did you know in advance they were going to offer that?
Isn’t that pastrami great! And on great bread!
Sides? They have sides?
I be think the pastrami is there every Thursday
And Bob, that’s a solid A.
Next stop, HammerDown!
Have you, or has anyone else tried the pastrami at ZZQ in Richmond? I think Redemption the is almost at greatness ZZQ should be great
Just our good luck Steve!
Yay! And John, the bread was super. I ate every crumb. It soaked up the juices yet maintained its integrity.
Bob, I usually drive to 2fifty in Riverdale Park so I can swing by Manifest Bread to get a loaf. It’s closer to me in upper NW DC, but worth the drive
