Curry Hyuga [San Francisco, Mission]

I had a late lunch today at Curry Hyuga in the Mission on Valencia St. They also have locations in Burlingame and Cupertino, and before moving to this location in the Mission had one SF location on Market Street.

Menus - they are still in the process of getting their alcohol license.

Curry Hyuga specializes in Japanese curry. I had the Signature Katsu Curry ($17) which has your choice of a chicken or pork katsu cutlet (I chose the pork), their 6 hour onion based curry, rice, thinly sliced cabbage, fukujinzuke pickles, and a small scoop of potato salad. It was a very good tonkatsu curry. The pork cutlet was quite good - tender though not quite as tender as the one I had the previous day at Kawanoya in Noe Valley. The cutlet coating was nice - very crispy. The curry was also very good - very rich and flavorful and savory. The little scoop of creamy potato salad was nice to counter the heat of the curry, which was on the spicier side of Japanese curries.

There is an assortment of ground chili peppers to apply with different heat levels. I added some of the weakest chili powder, jalapeño.

I used to love their karaage but then they started consistently undercooking one or two pieces every time I ordered it so I stopped going.

Quick dinner at Curry Hyuga https://curryhyuga.com in Burlington. Very nice flavors, tender, juicy pork with great crust. The yuzu lemonade wasn’t bad but was hoping for a bit more yuzu flavor

Signature Katsu Curry (caramelized onion based), hand breaded pork loin, rice, shredded cabbage, creamy potato salad , fukujin pickles
