Culinary Class Wars - Korean Chef Competition Show

Has anyone watched “Culinary Class Wars” on Netflix? I very much enjoyed it.

It is a cooking competition show, subtitled, that puts a group of established chefs (white team) against a group of lesser known chefs (black team). It is a Korean show, so I wasn’t aware of any of the chefs (except one, Edward Lee - who is Korean-American and won Iron Chef I believe).

It was very fun to watch - lots of ingredients that aren’t common here in the west - different cooking techniques - cultural differences - and the judges were interesting as well. One judge is (apparently) a very well known fine dining chef, the other much more focused on cuisine for the masses. So two different perspectives.

Curious if anyone else has watched and their thoughts before I put in any “spoilers”

I had noticed this on the site but hadn’t committed to hitting play just yet. I appreciate the opinion. Might give it a shot.

I enjoyed this! I only watch the British and Canadian baking shows as far as cooking competitions go, but I was drawn in by the characters here. I love Korean food, but have a pretty small repertoire of things I cook. I was inspired to visit a Korean grocery and cook while waiting impatiently for the next episode.

I watched and liked it. I thought it was well produced, fast moving and I was interested in the different cooking styles and ingredients. The relationships between the contestants and the judges were respectful and added to my enjoyment of the series. I think it’s well worth watching

I watched about four episodes, and enjoyed them, but it started feeling a little contrived; I think it was the grumbling among the nicknamed contestants and the “blind tasting” that seemed"produced". Not so much that I wouldn’t go back to it though. It was interesting to see the Korean American chef Edward Lee from the US compete .

My memory of the two judges was that one was a chef and the other was more known for launching successful restaurants.

There are probably spoilers based on this title, but its supposed to be a list of contestants, and on the Marie Claire site the title is " Meet the Cast of ‘Culinary Class Wars’: Here’s What to Know About the Contestants on the Korean Cooking Show"

From your description, you must have ended in (or at the end of) the one-on-one challenges to reduce the contestant number in half. That did take a while. But I did enjoy the episodes after that.

Without spoiling - to get to the final 2 contestants (after some team based episodes which I enjoyed as well), the remaining chefs went through several rounds, all cooking dishes using the same primary ingredient for each round. It amounted to something like 30-40 dishes. I was incredibly surprised how different each of those dishes were and how creative the chefs were able to be with the ingredient.

Hope a few people end up watching it, as I really enjoyed it. But glad that those few that have seen it have enjoyed it too!
