After almost 3 years spent in Elizabeth, I’m soon leaving the town… so to end I thought I’d post a quick compilation of some of my current all time favorite Elizabeth, NJ meals:
Two Brothers Restaurant
Haitian
255 N Broad St, Elizabeth, NJ 07201
Griyo (fried pork), with fried plantains (tostones), and mayi moulin ak pwa noir (cornmeal and black bean stew). Shout out to their curry goat and legim (legume vegetable stew) as well.
Imperio BBQ:
Salvadoran / Portuguese
Yucca and chicharron
Pupusas
Mila’s International
Honduran / Latin
Pollo frito estilo Honduras
Olga’s Restaurant
Costa Rican
Casado - steak with onions, sweet plantains, rice, bean, russian salad
El Sabor Ambateno
Ecuadorian
Daily lunch specials such as a variety of stews, served with soup and spicy aji
And of course, no lunch would’ve been complete without an espresso at Legacy Cafe or Roc’s Cafe.
Special mention for places with solid food, friendly service, homey ambiance:
Barone’s Italian Market - Uruguayan deli and bakery, with daily lunch specials
Ponto De Encontro - Portuguese espresso bar/home-cooked meals
Peniel Shalom - Brazilian by-the-pound kilo restaurant
Rinconcito Latino - corner slightly hidden Salvadoran restaurant
Cibao - steam table Dominican restaurant
