costco yay/nay/meh

Do they have the parm in normal sizes? I am not a costco member (single household), but it might be worth joining just for that.

It’s a largish wedge, but parm keeps a long time. We don’t go through it fast, but it’s always fine.

I don’t think you have to join, they will allow you a one day pass to buy I believe OR ask a friend to take you along or pick it up for you.

I agree, parm lasts a long time. I buy Charmin and Best Foods when it’s on sale. I like the Wild Planet canned tuna, regular price is 6 cans for $17.

The one with a gas station is 12 miles from me but their prices are always the best and a good TJ is a block away.

Also like their cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, raspberries. Frozen: Panko Shrimp and Cilantro-Chicken Won Tons (I pan fry from frozen, add a bit of water at the end, put lids on for a minute, good with chile oil.

I’m just one person and for me it’s worth the membership fee (my daughter shares with her ex).

Wow, we liked this Panettone! Hard to tell from my bad photo but easily enough for 8-10 people.

@Thimes - I was at Costco this weekend too (Dedham) and was pleasantly surprised by all the LNY goodies already out. Holiday is not until end of the month. I didn’t grab these - our local markets have the Synear brand frozen goods so I assumed I could grab these in a smaller bag from those stores.

I grabbed the Goshujang Spam – yay! If you like Spam and know the texture and saltiness to expect, this just adds a little bit of that sweet/spicy smokiness to the product. It is quite mild and doesn’t really have any heat, but I do think the mild sweetness helps with the saltiness of the product.

We also grabbed a box of the Bibigo Spicy Mushroom soup packs. Have not tried yet, so will report back later.

Tried the Portuguese Pastel de Nata Tarts. I’ve only tried a ‘real’ one once in NYC from a Portuguese baker. That version was way too sweet to my liking. I’ve had the similar Portuguese egg tarts from Chinese bakeries in HK and local Chinese bakeries. The Costco version is sweeter, and the custard not as smooth, but it was better than he NYC bakery. But beware the hot molten center; I still burned my mouth even after letting them sit for 15 mins.

Lastly, got the Costco kimbaps with tuna mayo (only flavor they had left). The heated tuna wasn’t as off-putting as you would think, and it is downright tasty. I enjoyed them more than the Trader Joe kind. I would definitely buy again, and want to try the other flavor.

Anyone have any experience with Kirkland macadamia nuts?

Yes, I buy them frequently - they are consistently good, much better than anything I can get at the regular grocery store, and much less expensive. They do tend to go rancid semi-quickly, but not any more so than grocery store nuts. I usually freeze half the bag if I don’t think I’ll get through them fast enough.

Thank you! I hate it when nuts go rancid; even though I’ll munch them like a crazed squirrel, sometimes I’m not fast enough.

I was gifted some at Christmas. I was surprised how fresh they tasted until I got an ‘off’ one. Dang it…there went my review.

We used to buy Kirkland macadamia nuts pretty often, but I got kind of tired of them. I have poor impulse control - that’s why every snack package can be a single serving to me - and I ate and ate and ate macs until I reached a saturation point. I think I’m good with not having any more macadamias for three or four years! ISTR that I loved them during my binges, though.

I don’t use them to snack on, I use them for making coatings for fish. A bag will last years in my freezer. Kirkland brand is less expensive than the
old Mauna Loa brand which was sold in Costco.

Has anyone tried or bought their Manuka honey and is it a bargain at Costco?

I bought the manuka honey from Costco when they were first coming out with manuka honey. I think it’s the same brand as the version they sell now, but the current version is a smaller container (better IMO). I don’t have another brand of manuka honey to compare it to, but if you’ve tried honey that claims to be harvested from different flowers, there is a subtle aroma to the honey. There is definitely something different to this that I can’t quite place and I don’t know if I like or not. It doesn’t necessarily impart a taste when mixed into a beverage or other ingredients, but I’m not using a lot of this all at once. YMMV if you are putting it raw on toast.

Edit: Just adding that I burned my finger making tea one night (scalded my finger) and I didn’t have any ointment or salve. Read that honey can be used and I put the manuka honey on my finger. Worked beautifully!

I recently needed to toss a large bag of sunflower seeds that went rancid in a short time after opening. Very frustrating.

Thank you!

Yeah, especially when they’ve just been purchased.

I pack as much stuff as I can in vacuum bags. I have a little $25 hand vac from Temu; it works pretty well. I also vac stuff for the freezer to prevent ‘burn.’

I vac and freeze a lot of stuff - so many things & so little freezer space.

Thy came today. OMG the size of golf balls. lol. And very fresh!

Yeah I should have put a ruler in the photo.

Edit: My Baltimore Orange Crush (fresh OJ, vodka, Cointreau , and Sprite) - perfect with the macadamias!!
