Slice it off and add to the grill a little later?
Deleted-I’m sure I already made this remark prior.
Yes.
well, depending . . . that’s a benefit or . . . not.
same thing with flat iron steaks - tapered cut . . .
but it works for me because DW prefers more well done that my preference of medium rare. she get cuts from the thinner end, I get cuts from the thicker end . . .
Coincidentally, I have some Prime-graded tri-tip from Costco rubbed for grilling tomorrow. It’s the last of a package I’ve enjoyed. This was fresh cut and with no flavoring added, but it had been needled.
Tasty.
Kebabs.
Genius.
Our Costco had massive 5lb cherry pies out today, has anyone tried one? Also the rugelach looked incredible, I love when the filling spills out to create caramelized edges but my experience has not been great, tastes of lard instead of butter, maybe they’ve improved?
Best,
I’ll go check for cherry pie, but if the crust has lard I’m not interested.
I don’t think Costco uses lard in any of their baked goods - more likely, it’s vegetable shortening lending that distinctively flavorless flavor. Per Instacart, here are the ingredients in their rugelach: Enriched Flour (bleached Wheat And Malted Barley Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Monitrate(vitamin B1), Riboflavin (vitamin B2), Folic Acid), Cream Cheese (pasteurized Milk And Cream, Salt, Stabilizers(xanthan /carob Bean/guar Gum), Butter, Chocolate Filling (high Fructose Corn Syrup, Sugar, Water, Cocoa Powder (alkalized), Modified Corn Starch, Natural Chocolate Flavor, Potassium Sorbate (as A Preservative), Salt), Raspberry Filling (sugar, Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Flour, Soybean And/or Cottonseed Oil, Red Raspberries, Walnuts, Pectin, Nonfat Milk Solids, Leavening (baking Soda, Sodium Aluminum Phosphate, Aluminum Sulfate, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate, Monocalcium Phosphate), Dry Egg Yolk, Propylene Glycol Mono & Diesters Of Fatty Acids, Corn Syrup Dry Egg Whites, Salt, Mono & Diglycerides, Modified Food Starch, Red Raspberry Seeds, Wheat Starch, Soy Dioxide, Citric Acid, Cellulose Gel & Gum, Alpha Tocopherols (as A Preservative), Artificial Color, Natural And Artificial Flavor, Xanthan Gum, Red 40, Blue 1, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Sulfate), Semi-sweet Chocolate Drops (sugar, Chocolate Liquor, Cocoa Butter, Dextrose, Soy Lecithin, Vanilla), Sugar, Corn Syrup, cornstarch, Cinnamon.
Yay to Embroidery pinot noir, a $6.99 bottle with a county appellation, that actually tastes like pinot noir.
At the Richmond, CA store. I think this is a one-off.
Yeah, they don’t. Always shortening.
Cheaper, and more shelf stable.
thanks, as good as they look, I guess I won’t be buying again.
Shortening is probably worse for me than lard.
I’ve been buying their croissants for the past few visits on the presumption they’re all butter, which isn’t super healthy either, but I prefer it to lard or shortening.
Yay to the 20 oz tub of Maldon sea salt flakes. Didn’t even look at the price
Yeah, I did the Linda Blair at that Maldon yesterday. If it’s the same density as Diamond Crystal, I’ll be elated.
What surprises me is that supposedly the most popular Costco alcohol purchase in Virginia is Tanqueray Dry Gin. Beer and wine can be purchased at VA Costcos but hard liquor is only sold at state run ABC stores.
I drive over to DC for the Kirkland Dry London Gin.
