Coronavirus - what to stock up on?

It’s many years since I’ve been to Delft but I remember it as a lovely small town.

Milk and beer delivery? My kind of town.

True here in N Cal too, but that’s what makes it work.

FWIW, our CSA let’s you customize your box, within limits. You cant get a pineapple, but you can almost always get some sort of apple. And I can usually get carrots, some sort of greens, onions, shallots, garlic, and even black garlic when there’s not much else I want.

And you can never have too much compost!

I’m just about OK for compost. I managed to get a couple of bags delivered right at the beginning of the crisis from a garden centre which carried on doing deliveries for a while before fully closing. To increase volume, I’ve mixed it with old compost (enhanced with fertiliser) and soil. Seems to be OK.

I find it kinda fun when we get these vegetable boxes. LookIng at the bounty and thinking what can I make with this. Think of it like an episode of Chopped.

I like that idea. I know I have tried so many things I wouldn’t have, but I also broke my “no new cookbooks” rule, and bought a few vegetable references

Who needs cookbooks . Look at the bounty in front of you. Surely you have ideas before research. Although a well thought out menu can be good. Look forward to your meal.

I’m at a lost today. Have a pack of chicken thighs and some broccoli and cauliflower with which to construct a meal. Oh yeah and sour dough bread :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: thanks hun

“Surely you have ideas before research.”

Hmmmm…nope! Well, I have some, but I like new ones too. BTW, these are not really cookbooks.

Sure they are. I figure a picture is as good as a recipe. I know you can look at a picture and create a whole menu around it.

You might have me mixed up with someone else! I never do menus. I almost always only cook one dish. Anyway, I like these for gardening too. Two more.

I’ve come to realize that there are cookbook people, and folks who simply just don’t use them, or only for a very loose guide. I’m an avid but somewhat selective collector, and can’t tell you how many books I’ve been re-gifted from friends who don’t like or use them. Also lots of good finds at Goodwill - great books, never cracked that are inscribed and given as x-mas, hostess gifts, or whatever. Also I much prefer physical books to kindle versions, although my collection is larger than current shelf capacity. Just ordered another today…

Not familiar with the pepper books, but have seen them on another thread @shrinkrap. The two top ones are considered to be excellent. IMO, Deborah Madison is a genius with vegetables.

Has anybody said to stock up on seeds yet?

I hear they can be hard to get, but if you grow some varieties you can save your own.

Great idea on the seeds!

Thank you. And folks will trade, too!
