Dunno why, but a vision of you came into my head.

Between my drinking “slightly above” most Dr’s recommendations and spring allergies every day I wake up I’m 110% sure I have it and will be dying by lunch. So far thank God I have misdiagnosed myself daily.

LOL, there are some half of the population, the pessimistic ones think they have contracted the virus but never did vs half of those optimistic who actually did, but didn’t think of it until they are spreading it. Maybe it’s better to be a pessimist?!

My wife, almost 60 yrs old, would still look pretty good in that Triquini. NOBODY wants to see me in it!

Only of interest to we amateur blackmailers.

Yeah? I’m pretty sure I’m going to need a two piece for this beach season.

Funny, I’ve always visited Japan in the fall, so I don’t think about that. But it was always momiji season (leaf peeping for the red maple leaves) which can be just as miserable for some allergy sufferers – the leaves withering and decaying produces allergens too.

Will there even be a beach season this year? If so, I’m going full beach hijab.

It’s been nearly two weeks since I’ve been to the grocery store. Really trying to use up a lot of what’s in the freezers. Some how I have a lot of frozen peas. Need some ideas beyond the basics and no herbs on hand.

I’ll start!

Frozen peas, plus:

  • orecchiette (or small shells, or similar)
  • optional pancetta/speck/bacon chopped into little batons
  • oil and butter pan sauce
  • grated Parmesan (or similar) to finish
  • freshly ground black pepper at the table, and maybe even more Parmesan

Or too much of a usual suspect for you?

Put a single frozen pea in each ear and walk around cupping your hand to your ear, saying, “Huh?”

Or, use them in your beef stew and/or picadillo next time you make some.

They’re great with shrimp in an Alfredo basil sauce over pasta, assuming you might have some dried basil, marjoram, or even Mediterranean oregano on hand. Also good in ramen type soups, curries of all kinds, Shepard’s or cottage pies, cold in green salads. Pea and cashew salads. In fact I love to shake frozen peas over a freshly made green salad, a few minutes before serving, because it super chills the lettuce leaves. Too many peas, not a bad problem to have!

Nearly any kind of pasta or potato salad.

Frozen peas are always the only thing I don’t have when I make fried rice. So…fried rice.

I came across a guy with a pea in each ear. And asked him why he’d done it. he replied that he’d had to , as he hadnt a bean to his name.

By the by, I would guess that frozen peas are the UK’s most popular vegetable. I’d be reasonably confident that it’s the most popular frozen one. And generally served “as is”. Pea puree is a fairly common restaurant preparation where I am, often served topped with scallops (that’s when they are not doing the almost classic combo or cauliflower puree, black pudding and scallop).

I’ve made a cold pea soup with mint. I love the bright green color from frozen peas.

Mmmm, mint. Wish I had some. I’m trying to cook everything without ever leaving the house until the smoke clears a little more. Using my skills of cooking on the fly with what ever I have on hand. Too many people out there that still think it’s a hoax or they are invincible

Pea and mint is lovely in whichever form it comes. We often add sprigs of mint to the water when we’re boiling the peas.

And, returning to the thread title, we’ve been stocking up. Or, at least, we’ve been placing orders to stock up.

First, there’s the weekly supermarket order. Everything in stock except flour (still) and tins of chickpeas.

We’ve also done an order to a butcher in the next county who we’ve used before, although not for some months. All of their pork is free range, and both beef and lamb come from a single farm local to them. Not coming for three weeks though.

And the folk who run a stall at a local openair market, on the opposite side of the metro area, have started doing delivery. They’re selling boxes of fruit, veg and salads for what seems a very reasonable price of £25 including delivery.

And Mrs H’s Googling skills has turned up a treat. She found an online source of French foods so Saturday wll see a delivery of jars of pate and rillettes, cheese, salami and “other stuff”.

Should keep us going for a while.
