I had lunch at Cinderella Bakery & Cafe in the Richmond before heading to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in Golden Gate Park this past Saturday. Cinderella is a Russian bakery, opened back in 1955, that also serves Russian dishes like borsch, pelmeni, olivier salad, and herring under a fur coat. I’ve gotten delivery from them before but this was my first visit to the bakery.
You order and pay at the counter, and you also get a number if you’re getting a prepared dish. There’s no seating inside but there are some tables and a parklet outside.

I had an order of Pelmeni ($16), which are boiled dumplings filled with pork and beef, served with sour cream. There are options for pelmeni in broth (+$1) or pan fried (+$2). I just got the regular pelmeni. These were very good and a sizeable portion. The wrappers were thickish and the filling was juicy and very reminiscent of that of Chinese dumplings.
And I also had a slice of honey cake, along with a pint of North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout which they have on nitro. The honey cake was a very nice dessert, with many interleaved layers of honey flavored cake and frosting with a crumbly topping. It was moist and not overly sweet.
Good stuff, I want to try the shuba / herring under a fur coat or the borsch or some other Russian dishes next time - I don’t believe there are many places serving Russian food in SF.
