Christmas Culinaria?

No, they don’t at least in my experience - but you can also get flat, perforated sheets for just the reheating scenario you mention.

Santa brought us a simple electric Belgium waffle maker, a pair of silicone “waffle tongs” and a bag of Carbon’s Golden Malted Pancake & Waffle mix. Not gourmet, but practical. Haven’t broken it in yet. We had a waffle maker many years ago, but it bit the dust. We really like the waffle mix and were glad that it’s still available.

I got a new mortar and pestle, to replace my old one, 'cause the pestle broke. Now I can use my extra mortar as a little dish!

I use it for sticky, viscous ingredients like cornbread batter, cheesecake filling, pretty much anything you pour or spoon into the vessel to cook. My KA one does an admirable job of preventing you from having to stop the mixer and scrape down the sides.

I’ve been eyeing this dual blade scraper on Amazon for my mixer.

I gave my youngest brother two wooden-handled French paring knives; I had bought a set of four and kept two for myself. I love those things.

I gave my other brother a new LC enameled oval Dutch oven to replace their first Dutch oven, a cheap brand that had degraded quickly. I asked for color prefs and they had none, so I picked out a GORGEOUS color: “Rhône,” a beautiful deep wine color with gold hardware. A stunner. I was so excited to reveal it to them. Imagine my surprise to open their cabinet on Xmas morning to find ANOTHER SAME COLOR new pan! Turns out they’d been gifted it by someone else who had also personally picked out the exact same color for them, without consultation. That pan turned out to be an inexpensive brand but the color matches the LC almost exactly. Wild!

My little brother gave me another jar of his local (Ga) honey. He gave me some last year and I fell in love with it, so I got more:)

Careful… it is rare for third party offerings to fit the bowl as well as one made by your mixer manufacturer. Plus, one side is just fine… it will come into contact with all areas of the bowl sides and induce less friction to the mixer.

You have a point… didn’t think of that.

I happen to see “Glen” of “Glen and Friends cooking” on youtube using a similar dual edge blade in a newer video. Apparently, a viewer sent it to him to try out and he was going on and on about how great it was.

Lovely. Both of them.

I gave my daughter and my sister burr coffee grinders. My daughter and her boyfriend have been buying pre-ground, and my sister and BIL have been using a blade grinder. My daughter also got a 2 qt GreenPan pot to replace her shredded Teflon pot.

My sister and BIL have received the lion’s share of kitchen gifts from me this year. They got a house “re-warming” gift of one of my santoku knives in June, then the All Clad CC pasta pentola set in August. I got tired of dealing with their blade coffee grinder when visiting, so that gift is maybe a bit for me as well.

What’s the problem with a blade coffee grinder? I have one I’m considering repurposing as a nut grinder, as my food processor (albeit old) does not do as fine a grind as I’d like.

Nice. I got Alderwood smoked salt AND a label maker. A large amount of the salt got used on yesterday’s briscuit

You can also grind certain spices with it. In the past, I’ve used mine to grind whole coriander (seeds) and other seed type spices.

The grinds are very inconsistent, with everything from powder to large chunks. (Their ground coffee always looks like the attached picture, including the whole beans!) I, too, started out with a blade grinder. My coffee improved immensely when I switched to my first burr grinder.

I did buy a blade grinder around 2020. I use it for pulverizing quinoa and amaranth for my Dutch oven bread. Herbs and spices I grind in a wood mortar and pestle. :slightly_smiling_face:
