“Chowhound was founded in 1997 by writer Jim Leff and Bob Okumura, and has deep roots in the food world. Acquired and relaunched by Static Media in 2023, our team of writers, editors, and recipe developers is committed to editorial excellence, which is why we regularly consult experts in the food industry to ensure we’re bringing our readers the best of the best when it comes to first-hand knowledge and sources.”
Huh. Just articles/list-icles, no discussion. Can’t say I was inspired to click on anything, maybe the target audience is younger & less experienced or I’m just old & jaded.
I find Tasting Table to be useful & entertaining. Either my ad blockers work fine on it or they don’t block it at all but being able to read w/o ads or a paywall keeps me coming back. I do have one rant about their constant use of “XXX RANKED WORST TO BEST” Headlines to generate clicks …which does work since I’ll read them BUT much irritation w/ the ones that start off “Ok there is no “WORST” in this article-- I liked them all but have to rank them for this piece.”
Youll only find them on the Internet Wayback Machine. And then only with a lot of twists, turns, and waiting for pages to fill. And THEN you’ll only get the first page of comments, IIRC.
The new site owner’s name, Static Media, is very telling, by definition. “lacking in movement, action, or change, especially in a way viewed as undesirable or uninteresting.” DING DING DING!!

I agree. I posted A LOT in the “canelé” threads (with pictures), which I wish I could access.
I thought chowhounds gave us a period of time to download content before closing. I thought about spidering the whole website but was absolutely crushed with work at the time.
I’d have to think someone downloaded the whole thing?
I just had a look at the “new” chowhound and felt like I was scanning one big ad. I think I will stay with hungryonion… I like the discussions and having chitchats with y’all.
