A recent opening on the High Street, in the premises previously occupied by the fishmonger. They’ve done quite a nice conversion with tables spaced apart just about enough not to feel crowded, and reasonably comfy chairs. It was busy on a Wednesday evening and, in that, lay my only negative comment – with the low ceiling and other hard surfaces, it was very noisy and my partner & I genuinely struggled to hear each other. Service was on the ball, with staff being friendly and efficient (not always a given). It’s a menu packed with Greek standards, served up in generous portions (with steaks and pizza for the less adventurous) .
We shared some starters - houmous, olives and kolokithokeftedes. The latter was a new one on us – a courgette mousse, breadcrumbed and cooked to a nice crisp. Came with a handful of salad and a whipped feta dip, spiked with chilli. And there was pitta, of course. If that was new, then main courses were old favourites. Stifado was all you want from this rich beef stew – tender, tasty meat, lovely rich tomato sauce – and a side salad for a bit of freshness. Pork souvlaki was excellent – a nice bit of charring on the outside and still moist meat beneath. That also came with salad. And crisp chips and a little dish of tzatziki.
We‘d had a nice dinner, in spite of the difficulty in chatting.
