" CHAR SIU MANOR, Woodbine & 16th Ave, Markham " - Great find! A real neighbourhood hidden gem!




Treating myself to a rare Cantonese Roasted Goose and half a Rose Wine Essence Premium Top Soya Sauce Free Range Chicken for the wife at this relatively new hidden gem, close to T&T!

Excellent product with authentic, exemplary seasoning. IMO, one of the best, if not the best Cantonese roasted meat joints in the area ( Richmond Hill/Markham ). Tough choice between ‘Excellent BBQ House’ inside Richlane Plaza and this place. CSM might win out by a whisker because of their cheaper price point!

BTW, though obviously, this ‘Canadian rendition’ Roasted Goose of mine fell short of some of Hong Kong’s finest. However, IMHO, for the rarity, the absolutely delectable spot-on ‘did-not-cut-corner’ marinade/seasoning, the resulting taste profile and the firmer, chewier ‘free-range’ texture of the meat…I have zero complaints!!

As for the chicken, it was the third time I got this perfectly executed and flavourful bird for the wife…need I say more?

Do they serve goose all the time or is it seasonal? We have been hoping to try goose done this way, but there are no places near us that seem to do it, so a special trip might be necessary.

I’ll ask them next time I visit. So far, it seems like they are introducing very limited quantity per day…may be due to the price?! $35 for half a bird but size is about 3/4 of a duck!

I’m not a fan of Char Siu…at least not in Canada?! Maybe I was spoiled by eating top-notch renditions in Hong Kong? …products marinated in good quality Rose Essence rice wine and roasted over Lychee wood!
