Chaa Roen Pohn [San Francisco, Parkside]

I had lunch this weekend at Chaa Roen Pohn, in the Parkside, a Thai and Lao restaurant that opened recently.

The menu - there is a section at the end with Lao dishes that I ordered off of.

Nam Kao Tod $16
Crispy rice salad, sour pork sausage, onion, peanuts with side of lettuce, cilantro and mint
This was a very good rendition. The rice was crunchy and with the salty sour sausage and herbs and lettuce made for an addictive combination.

Kao Piak $16
Hand pulled rice noodles in ginger chicken broth, pork loaf, pork spare-ribs, topped with green onion, cilantro and crispy onion
The kao piak was also very good. The broth was clear and slightly thickened from the hand pulled noodles, which I believe have tapioca along with rice in them. It was a very nice clean tasting broth that wasn’t too salty. The hand pulled noodles were not as chewy as other kao piak bowls that I’ve had and were quite tender. There were also pieces pork spareribs which were also quite tender, and some bouncy pork loaf slices. It was a very satisfying bowl of chicken noodle soup.
