Cast Iron Pot - AYCE Korean BBQ [Fairview NJ]

I’ll try my best to source some fresh bugs for ya!! Honestly the most common way of consuming it is just steamed straight out of the can. You can toss/stir fry it with whatever you’d like, and Koreans will also make soup with it, I’ll post some recipes later!

@MsBean I think you can find it near canned tuna. You think sprout will have some?

Also I highly recommend Lotte market in edison if you haven’t been, they have some incredible deals there.

@coldbeer70 that sounds like an awesome trip!! Especially back then koreans really werent that used to foreigners. Oh and both of your thank yous work! You must have an amazing memory.

I’ll put a note on my list to check the fish aisle the next time I am there. I asked The Sprout and at first she said no but then said she probably would. The issue is how much it looks like pupae. What is the texture like?

I’m not familiar with Lotte. I’ll have to stop by the next time I’m in the area.

The outside is nice and chewy, sort of like you’re biting into a thin layer of octopus or something. But then inside it has this ricotta like texture that just screams BUG GUTS!! to me. Hey we should get together and share in the joy of bug eating, it’s been a long time and I think I’m ready to try again. Tell sprout I’m in if she’s in!

We made people eat this with pancakes at ihop for one of our fake frat pledge classes. It was wonderful.

Here’s a recipe for a soup/stew thing! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_mpcU1Ad_g

It was a good stay…you know they call Koreans the “Irish of The Orient”…there’s a north and a south, a history of occupation, folks who like a drink now and again…

Interesting combo of textures. I’m not sure I’d like it but then I don’t like mashed potatoes or oatmeal. I’ll let The Sprout know you’re down. May have to wait until summer as we’re not eating with people outside our bubble quite yet.

We’ll definitely have to hit up Lotte. I like how their circulars highlight different products depending upon the focus.

I think the place in New Brunswick you are referring to is Butcher 360? https://www.butcher360bbq.com/
We went over the summer when they first opened. They had a ton of outdoor tables, and the inside is relatively COVID-safe: the front doors were open, the ceilings are high, and the exhaust fans suck everything out. The owner and wait staff are super nice. The food is good, but the marinades are not traditional - they run really sweet. I will eat there again though.

That totally makes sense!! “Now and again” for sure!! According to this Korea and Ireland were tied in alcohol consumption last year! https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/alcohol-consumption-by-country

I wonder how much covid affected alcohol consumption around the world.

It will be worth the wait!!

@esjro Yes that’s the place! I guess I was right when I said the place looks “sweet”!!

I think extra sweet marinades is the general trend now. The bulgogi at the Iron Pot place was SO sweet, probably the sweetest meat dish I’ve ever had. I wonder if it’s to get people to eat a lot of rice with it.

Hmmm, if it’s served to me, I’d try it. I don’t think I’m making it!!
