Went to Casa Teresa for Happy Hour. Sat at the bar and ordered two HH tapas plus a side dish from the regular menu. The regular menu wins hands down.
First up was a tapa of patatas bravas with a DC-centric mambo sauce. I was a bit leery of this, as mambo sauce might not work with its sweetness.
It was not a mambo sauce at all, more like a nice homemade ketchup. But even a nice homemade ketchup is still ketchup, so this is a poor substitute for a traditional version.
Next was a grilled txistorra, a thin pork sausage served on pan de cristal. The bread was extraordinary, crispy and pillowy at the same time. The suasage was nothing special, however.
The star was the roasted Vidalia onion with egg yolk, house-made spiced
pork sausage, and honey:
This was unique and powerful a with a bit of a spicy kick. A true sensation. This does make me want to return to try their setas with brandied raisins, plus the beet and tomato gazpacho.
