I have memories of fantastic chicken curry and roti, etc. delivered in Manhattan to the Caribbean student groups in my college. I have no idea where that food came from, but pretty sure it can still be found? I’m looking for recommendations for dine in (as opposed to take out)? Thanks in advance.
Are you looking for Caribbean dine-in options only in the Bronx, or is upper Manhattan also an option? And how nice a dine-in setting are you hoping for?

Hi @DaveCook, only looking for dine-in at the moment, but will keep any take out options for the future. Ditto upper Manhattan; looking in the Bronx, but it’s a kind of food I haven’t had that’s really great in a long time, so I am open to suggestion.
Thanks @Rickbern, in a pinch, Mexican would do also. Just not the sense memory from my youth!
I was asking, @ninkat, about how nice the dine-in setting needed to be. For a nicer setting — but in upper Manhattan, so you’ll file it for the future — I’ll recommend Sisters Caribbean Cuisine, in East Harlem, whose influences include Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica, and the American South. Let me think a little bit about the Bronx. It’s a big borough; what neighborhoods are you hoping for?
Thanks! Doesn’t need to be about the setting for this, though happy to learn all about these places. Wasn’t hoping for particular 'hoods in the Bronx, but rather thought there is good (great?) Caribbean food to be found there?

Floridita, Bdway around 175th St?
Maybe Tropical, Bdway(?) in the 150s?
Obviously, both are Manhattan not Bronx but come with (non recent) recommendations from some of my Dominican ex-coworkers
malecon & Flor de Mayo are within a block or two of Floridita, but I dont know them.
Flor is one of our favorites, my wife loves their lomo Saltado; I’m there for their roast chicken or bone-in fried chicken chunks. They have an infamous mixed drink called a nutcracker, pretty strong…we also like Malecon but for some reason, flor is more fun. We think the flor in the 80s is a little better than the one in 90s.
My middle kid lives in crown heights, he’s always sending us photos of roti, doubles, etc.
Have you been to Frieda’s?
I’ve been to Freda’s (no “I”), though not in a while. It’s good, but the menu is smallish, the dining room is a little dispiriting, and, for @ninkat’s purposes, it’s not in the Bronx.
I have no names for you but I think you will find Haitian and Jamaican food around large hospitals. When I worked at Jacobi years ago, some staff members would bring back fabulous plates of oxtail, griot, etc to eat on site. Maybe do a search and follow up (??)
Thanks to you all! This is a slow moving target for me, but I will, of course, let you know what I find, as I go. Flor de Mayo and El Malecon are good bets in my 'hood, but trying to expand my horizons here. I will ask people I know who work at Bronx hospitals (at the moment, I think I am limited to Montefiore), so thanks for that suggestion!
Also, the particular people who used to do the ordering for my college dinners were Guyanese, so I am particularly interested to try Melanie’s Roti. Thanks @DaveCook
