California Dive Bars

I remember taking a day off when I was working in Los Angeles.
I was dropped off by my nephew in downtown . He was going to pick me up after work .
Walked the garment district and stumbled upon King Eddy’s.
It was around 7 am . Sat down and ordered a beer . Looking across the room I noticed a man behind a glass enclosure. Bright white dentures. Chain smoking cigarettes wearing a flannel coat . Looked straight out of the terminator movie.
Minutes later two men on walkers wearing stained wife beater t shirts were arguing ready to have a fist fight .
The start to a good day in downtown Los Angeles

Hadn’t been to Ye Old Watering Hole in years, and now it has closed. It was the last bar before leaving town up the coast and was the real deal. It apparently changed ownership in 2019 and the management sought fit to scrub it clean, paint, install new lighting (to “brighten up the joint”) and subbed-in more tasteful motifs to the decor. Word was that they ruined it.

Rodeo Room Cocktails

1306 S Vermont, just south of pico

Friendly and cheap and dirty. Multilingual. Good spot for pregame drinking.

I have a feeling crypto.com arena isn’t gonna last based just on drink prices, but it helps. That’s a market that’s never going down ever.
