I wanted to try this place, hadn’t been in this part of town in a good while … seems like it’s becoming a 4th Chinatown.

They have a good deal, a big Vietnamese sandwich and drink (I had iced Vietnamese coffee) for $13, otherwise, sandwiches are $10. If you use a card instead of cash, price is a bit higher.

I chose Lemongrass Pork; the bread was excellent, loved the iced coffee but sandwich filling wasn’t great. For some reason, the bit of jalapeño nearly killed me, a really unusual one that seemed hotter than serrano!

Extra baguettes are $1 each. This place makes baguettes that are delivered to many other sandwich shops. While I was there, there was a big flour delivery … they said this amount lasts 2 weeks.

Today I got a roast pork Bahn Mi from California Bakery,
719 Taraval SF. $11.50, pretty packed, meat kinda chewy. I wanted a Vietnamese iced coffee but they wanted $7.75 and I think that’s way overpriced.

The donuts etc didn’t entice me.

Photo is of ½ the sandwich.

If you are in that area the panino at El Cafe down the street was really good last year

Funny they’re a bakery but roll didn’t excite, not crunchy.

The search goes on …

Today I tried Iliana Cafe, Clement/24th, on recommendation of my nail lady nearby.

Clean, comfortable padded chairs. I got a large Vietnamese Iced Coffee $6.75 and a BBQ Pork Banh Mi, bread is good but doesn’t shatter. Total price was $15 and change.

Here’s a photo of half of one.

They have a sign asking customers not to stay there more than an hour!?!?!

There are too many (smaller) coffee shops where people buy a coffee at the beginning and then stay for 2-3 hours. At the end, those places can only survive if they have business with people who are actually buying things

Inside was empty; I took mine to-go. Probably busier on weekends.

I was glad iced coffee wasn’t too sweet.
