Buff’s Pub [Newton, MA]

Took advantage of the holiday and nice weather to go to Buff’s Pub for a late lunch (B’s choice). It’s been years since we’ve been. It was packed and convivial, although the staff was slammed. Happy to see the Bruins game on all the TVs except for 2, which had some Notre Dame infomercial thing-y, which got Buckeye B nervous about tonight’s game.

Not much in the way of veggie things, so I got a turkey chili, which was good but a bit too tomato-y. B and Spring Onion shared a Buff Burger (perfectly cooked) with bacon; the bun is terrible, though, which even SO astutely noticed. B supplemented with the rest of my chili and wings. Then we hit up Whole Foods and Marty’s down the street for wine and beer and some fun food items, including a Peppermint Crisp bar. Not a bad choice for today. Now just 3 hours to kill until the big game.

GBA Onions— I’m gonna take a little break from HO. It’s not due to anyone on the Boston board, but I’m getting tired of being corrected/having my reading comprehension questioned, etc. on other threads or seeing non-self-aware A-types dominating on other threads. I was going to try to participate more overall on HO and when I did, it became not so fun.

Be back again. Happy eating, GBA Onions!

Was it something I said?

Digga, we will be here waiting for more of your reports on your food adventures with B and Spring Onion.

You were in our neck of the woods today. We’ve been here 20 years and only learned about Buff’s Pub and their chicken wings a year ago, from my Israeli BIL who was staying at the Four Points across the street. Those wings are going to be one of our Super Bowl staples from here on out.

Marty’s food section seems to fly beneath the radar. Really a great selection of hot sauces, smoked salmon, chocolates, even a nice selection of cheese. It’s my source for chorizo picante, and the lobster roll is excellent and a superb value.

I’m a bit torn about the BCS football game - I was born and raised in Indiana west of South Bend (Hammond) but went to HS in Ohio. Divided loyalties. OSU is starting to look like they have the edge as we approach halftime.

Logged back on during half-time to clean up loose ends.

Absolutely not @fooddabbler. I’m an avid follower of yours; in fact, I adore all of the GBA Onions. Just need a break from the world outside the GBA board.

digga, I do hope you’ll keep posting on the Boston board. We need you and your wonderful reports and updates on SO!

I really noticed the most recent unpleasant exchange and it was so unnecessarily negative, pointed, and critical. So I do understand, but hope you’ll stay with us here!

Nooooo!

But in all seriousness, you need to do what you need to do for you! We’ll be here when you are ready to come back (and I hope you do!). Sometimes it is hard to tune out difficult voices. If you really need to, there is always the blocking function (over on Blue Sky the mantra is “Don’t Engage. Just Block.” and it is actually pretty refreshing. Just missing the old “plonk” noise from Usenet days.).

Be well!

Taking a break is always a good idea. As you can see, your GBA peeps will keep a seat at the table for you.

@digga I totally get this but I think you’re awesome and will be glad to see you whenever you decide to return. The world is a tough place just now. Sending hugs.

Where was this exchange, or has it been flagged and deleted?

Although I’m taking a break, I still get notifications so here I am. Please don’t put pressure on other people. I’m taking a break, plain and simple.

Frankly, I’m dealing with some work issues with the FDA right now, so I have bigger fish to fry, but I will also defend my GBA Onions to the end.

That was certainly not my intention. As you saw in my PM to you, I have been considering a break as well, and I was also merely echoing what others have said. You are a valued poster, and so are your contributions, and you will be missed. That is all.

I was just curious as I seem to have missed the most recent nastiness, but I can’t say I’m sad about it.

Self care is important. Be well.

The reports of entire units at FDA being disbanded are…sobering. We are dealing with interruptions caused by meeting shutdowns at NIH. No grants can go out without study section, council meetings, which are being canceled and not rescheduled.

So sorry about the hard times with the FDA and other government agencies…for you and so many others. Sending golden light and best wishes!

I had no idea we were in the same field (or at least adjacent) - every industry news update I get makes me more and more anxious. So I get the need to cut out unnecessary stress! Hope we can hang in there.
