We went to RI yesterday and had plans to take mom and dad into Providence for an early dinner; the weather was not awesome so we pivoted to an Italian-American-Portuguese place, Oxford Tavern in Barrington, that we’ve been to once before. Rhode Islanders eat early and we wanted to avoid a wait (they don’t take reservations). Everyone was satisfied with their meals (penne Alfredo with grilled chicken for Spring Onion, some seafood dish for dad, linguine and littleneck clams for me, weird pizza for B but he’s ok with anything) except mom, who ordered the Mozambique seafood app for her meal. It had mostly chorizo but in her mind, not enough octopus and shrimp. Oh well. She helped dad finish off his meal and I snuck her several clams. She liked her Aperol spritz.
Today, we went to Warren for some strolling and lunch at Chomp, another favorite ultra-casual place. Smash burgers for SO and dad, a crab cake special app for mom (she redeemed herself from last night), a beef dip sandwich for B, and a veggie gyro-inflected burger for me (cross-section photo). Dad and I could only have half of our burgers, everyone was happy, service was great as always. Delicious IPA from Florida of all places on tap for B, Sauvignon blanc for me, a light pils for mom and dad.
All photos by Spring Onion, who enjoyed celebrating the women in his life, which is what this day is all about. Hitting up Wright Farm ice cream trailer afterwards helped the cause. Blount clam shack was pleasingly hopping with a nice solo musician serenading the crowd.
ETA: all photos except for his own giant “kid’s” burger. He polished it off. He’s got the metabolism of….well, I don’t know what!
