Yes, hopefully she can work through her addictions. On her own. Leave others out of it. She abused many people. They needn’t pay the price for her abuse of alcohol.
Salon Rouge. She was a co-owner along with the very talented chef, Betsy White. I worked for them for a few months between college and grad school. The restaurant was only open for lunch and at night we catered dinner parties in people’s homes which was very fun in a voyeuristic way. I did not know the Edwin Land connection - fascinating.
Another piece of the puzzle ;-). What is Betsy White doing?
From a food and drink perspective I will greatly miss Sportello and Drink. I thought Menton was overpriced and did not live up to its pretensions. With Sportello and Via Marta off the board, my 2 favorite bologneses in the city are gone with them. Though you can get a pretty close rendition of the Via Matta’s bolognese at a michael Scholw’s at the Time Out Market.
We had one very memorable meal at Menton. My SO organized a surprise birthday dinner for me, for about 20 friends/family. Looking for venues, most places had steep room charges or wanted a buy-out. Menton had a suitable private room and didn’t charge for it. Menton staff worked with her and a wine-knowledgeable friend to craft a wonderful and reasonably-priced 3-course menu, with fabulous (not expensive) wines. I thought we were headed for an intimate dinner with my dad, but we turned left as we entered instead of right where the main dining room was located. At the end of the hall a waiter proferred a glass of champagne, holding the label for me to see it was a favorite grower champagne, Aubry brothers, and I was puzzled. I looked over his shoulder into the private dining room to see friends from England, France, California, and parts in between. To say it was a complete surprise is an understatement.
As the birthday boy I got invited to the kitchen to observe mid-service, and it was amazing. Hushed but intense, and the occasional “Oui chef” from everyone as orders were called out.
I too hope Lynch can overcome this challenge, which is both addiction and abuse of others. It remains to be seen. In the meantime, there need to be measures taken so she doesn’t abuse others.
Sounds like a very special evening and a great memory. Kudos to your thoughtful SO.
