Boston area dim sum

China Pearl Quincy seemed to have opened for a while last year, but is closed again as of a month or two ago.

Winsor Quincy rebranded at some point at New Winsor, and I suspect the ownership is different now (and possibly split from the Chinatown Winsor) because the food seemed different (better) than my previous experiences, and there’s also a new website. There’s a paper menu to mark off and the dishes seem mostly cooked fresh to order.

We went late for dim sum on a Sunday (2ish) and it wasn’t manic, but the restaurant was still mostly full. I had fun introducing my friend’s 7yo kid to dim sum, and she took to it like a duck to water (gnawing on spare ribs like a pro after a quick instruction on what to do, though her mom looked on anxiously lest she swallow a little bone – but no, she’s an expert now)!

Har gow were plump with thin wrappers, cheung fun was delicate and came cut up (the beef was a bit lackluster, but I nitpick), stuffed mushrooms had a generous meatball plopped onto an intense cap, bbq pork buns as expected, fantastic shiu mai, freshly fried shrimp and chive dumplings, black bean spare ribs as they should be, tasty radish cakes of the smooth / pasty rather than chunky type, and a mango pudding that the kid cornered :joy:.

I have commented in the past on thicker wrappers and perhaps less refined - though still delicious - dim sum from Winsor vs nyc options, but this time I found New Winsor indistinguishable – dumpling wrappers thinner and more delicate, cheung fun noodles delicate and silky, and so on. Prices have gone up, but haven’t they everywhere.
