Bon Délire [San Francisco, Embarcadero]

I was in the Embarcadero yesterday and had brunch at Bon Délire, a French bistro in Pier 3 that opened last October.

Eater blurb:

They have a “U” shaped bar and some outside seating. It’s not a huge restaurant.

Menus. They also have a board of daily specials but I didn’t get a picture.

BOULEVARDIER ZERO PROOF ($12)
Wilderton Bittersweet Aperitivo, Giffard Aperitif, house grapefruit cordial
I had a mock Boulevardier to drink, which was quite good - a little sweet and bitter.

6 oysters ($25)
cocktail sauce, lemon
And a half dozen oysters (I didn’t write down the variety), which were quite good and came with a mignonette and lemon.

Steak Frites w/Sauce Poivre ($38)
hanger steak
For brunch I had the steak frites, which featured an 8 oz hanger steak. There was also an option on the specials board to have it with a 12 oz New York steak for $52 IIRC. This was very good. There were two medallions of hangar steak with a pepper sauce that I think had a lot of butter in it. The hanger steak was on the more medium side of the medium rare that I requested, but was quite beefy as hanger steak is and also pretty tender, with a nice crust. The fries were also very good - thick with some of the skin on, and double fried and crispy on the outside with a tender interior.

A good option if you’re looking for French fare on the Embarcadero.

Just FYI whenever you see Kaluga caviar, you might want to stay away from it. It comes from Mainland China, where safety standards are, to put it mildly, loose compared to the US. Chinese caviar is often preserved with borax, a preservative banned in the US.

Kaluga caviar from China sold in the US contain much less borax than in other countries (FDA regulations which doesn’t completely prohibits borax but has a low threshold than in Europe where the borax levels are high by the regulations)
