Based on a hot tip form a trusted source, I stopped in at Bidwell in Union Market, where Chef John Mooney is doing some very interesting cooking.
When I think of elevated bar food, this is exactly what I hoped for. I had only two items and they were both a hit.
The first was a kale chip (I ordered two of these) topped with guacamole, tuna, a savory mayo, and cilantro. It was so harmonious I broke out in a big smile.
I bypass so many mac n cheese at bbq joints because the steam table is no friend to the end product. And they probably aren’t that good in the first place.
This is what I was saving myself for, and it worth the wait:
It was smoking hot, the cheese all nice and liquidy, the pasta had good texture, and the browned breadcrumbs on top made it sing.
All was right with the world.
