Best "fancy" restaurant in Monmouth county, nj

:grin::grin::grin:

I don’t even know what it is!

Are you more Sysco to kitchen then?
I get it though. Such places can come across as being pretentious. I don’t get that vibe at this restaurant and I think you would enjoy it.

This place has been on my “try it” list for a while. I hear the paella is very good and I need to give the place a go very soon.

If we are not focusing on “fancy”, the most dependable restaurant in the county is Drew’s.

Dollar for dollar, nothing touches Drew’s. Amazing food at at a very fair price is hard to find.

True very true. I’ve been outspoken over the years that Drew truly sells himself short by not having someone as FOH staff. His food, menu prices etc are all top notch, but service can be spotty during prime time. It drives me crazy because to me his good deserves more, but regardless you are 100% correct.

AND it’s BYO.

Sorry I’m probably in the minority but I am not a fan of BYO…we like to have a cocktail before dinner…then wine with dinner issue…wife drinks white, I drink red…then I like to have a drink after dinner. with my coffee…BYO is such a hassle for me.

I know people love them for the money saving aspect, but they all fall off my radar especially when thinking of a nice night out at a “fancier” restaurant. They have their place but not for anything special, at least for me.

Yes, but the OP said her in-laws aren’t big drinkers.

Point taken…was more of a generality shouldn’t have attempted to hijack:flushed:

No worries!

I’m in the same boat, sometimes I like to have a drink with my drink before dinner. I however have no problems bringing a portable bar with me when I go to a byob. I drink vodka, my wife bourbon and sometimes a bottle of wine to enjoy with our meal. Most byob’s that I frequent generally keep a bottle of sambucca (and other after dinner cordials) that they will provide a glass of when I order an espresso.

As they say: “There’s no shame in my game “

While some places may look the other way, isn’t it against the (silly/idiotic/arcane NJ) liquor law to bring hard alcohol into a byob?

I did make a half gallon jug of margaritas once when I went out for Mexican but I’m pretty sure the all seeing eye frowns on anything but beer/wine in NJ byos

Correct. I’m not that blatant about it, I will pre-mix the vodka into a flavored seltzer bottle and bring that. My wife’s latest kick is peach bourbon and iced tea, so we pre-mix that etc. I tell the server to charge us for two beverages but to hold the beverage and just bring us 2 glasses of ice. This way they don’t feel like I’m affecting the check total/tips. (Yes only a few dollars etc but it makes me feel like I’m not taking advantage of anything lol)

Well, one time you did need some help when we were sat upstairs…

Right. I get this side of it too. My mil might have a tequila sunrise (still not sure what that is ha!) and my fil would probably have a scotch but it isn’t a firm requirement either way.
