Belleville, Paris

We’re planning a trip that incudes several days in Paris, and we’re thinking of staying in Belleville. Thoughts about the area? I hear that it’s attracting new restaurants. What are some good options there?

I’m guessing that the answer depends on where in Belleville you’ll be. Onzieme just wrote a nice review of a place in the 11th that’s literally a 5 minute walk from the Belleville Metro station & I believe that Soces, a well reviewed restaurant here on HO, is a 15 minute walk from the Belleville station in the opposite direction. So, if you’re near this station, you have 2 recommended places and a ton of others I’ve never heard about. However, as a non-regular short time visitor to Paris, I would imagine you’d want to be closer to the center, or at least closer to the many Metro lines that’ll get you around quickly. I’m not sure Belleville fits that bill, but I might be wrong. We’ve always found places lower in the 11th to be better placed for walking and easily getting to many Metro lines. Either way, let us know what you find.
On a topic closer to your interest, I’ve never made it to this place, but it seems to at least say the right things: https://www.meltslowsmokedbarbecue.com/en/menu-restaurant. I think they even imported a Texas guy and, recently, one of the original Hometown BBQ (Brooklyn, NY) chefs to oversee the process.

Thanks. As it turns out we learned of a better place near Place de Vosges, so Belleville will have to wait its turn.
And I did eat at a barbecue place in Paris one, and still rue the wasted meal opportunity. Think globally, eat locally. Or is it drink globally?
