Fresh Hop Easy Lift by Great Notion (Portland, OR) - IPA
Close to its “regular” counterpart with mainly grapefruit and floral flavors and a dry, medium-high bitter finish. Good but a bit of middle of the road WCIPA
Fresh Hop Easy Lift by Great Notion (Portland, OR) - IPA
Close to its “regular” counterpart with mainly grapefruit and floral flavors and a dry, medium-high bitter finish. Good but a bit of middle of the road WCIPA
Fresh Hop Pilsner by Gigantic Brewing Company (Portland, OR) - Pilsner
Crisp pilsener with citrus and quite strong floral flavors. Yeasty notes with some bready tastes and a dry, low bitterness finish complete this nice example of a refreshing pilsner.
Fresh Hop Pilsner by Occidental Brewing Company (Portland, OR) - Pilsner
Spicy, citrus, some floral flavors and bitter, long lasting finish describe this pilsner best. Good balance of these flavors.
Turducken by Trillium Brewing Company (Canton, MA) - Triple Hazy IPA
Very hazy triple IPA with a super smooth mouth feeling and mouth coating consistency. Lots of citrus notes (lemon, orange zest) with more modest additional pineapple flavors in the background before earthy, piney tastes take over. Dry, medium bitter finish. Great TIPA which drinks dangerously easy.
New Badge, Who Dis? by RaR Brewing (Cambridge, MD) - Triple Hazy IPA
Another very hazy TIPA but less smooth mouthfeel. Tons of lime, orange creamsicle and hints of grape with surprisingly subtle piney and slightly floral tastes. Dry, low bitterness finish.
Tiki Sour - Escape to Fantasy Island by Corporate Ladder Brewing Company (Palmetto, FL) - Fruited Sour
Excellent sour which captured the characteristic of a tiki cocktail very well with strong fruit notes from mango, pineapple and ginger but also a strong tart component from the sour. The rum barrel aging added a nice additional layer with interesting notes of cardamom
Snorkel Squad by Hop Butcher for the Workd (Chicago, IL) - Hazy IPA
Mango-Pineapple-Orange citra hop bomb with some light earthy, piney notes in the second half of the sip to make it not too sweet/fruity. Very smooth mouthfeel and a prime example of a hazy IPA
Moon Time by Morgan Territory Brewing (Tracy, CA) - Hazy IPA
Relativ “standard” hazy IPA with tropical/stone fruit flavors (peach, pineapple, orange) upfront, balanced by some piney, grassy tastes coming later. Some malt and caramel notes are also in the background with a very dry, medium bitter finish
I had a couple Russian River Pliny the Youngers tonight at Toronado
Thicc or Treat by Homes Brewery (Ann Arbor, MI) - Fruited Sour
Not surprisingly with that name, a very thick smoothie-like sour with an orange forward main flavor with some berry notes and later in the sip some coconut tastes. Some sourness towards the finish but could be a bit more pronounced. Overall a very/overly fruity sour which could use a bit more balance.
Legroom by Trillium Brewing Company (Canton, MA) - Hazy DIPA
Good balance of tropical fruits (peach, pineapple, lime, orange), some restrained piney notes and a dry low-to-medium bitter finish. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel
Extra Extra Broccoli by Weldwerks Brewing Company (Greeley, CO) and Other Half Brewing Company (Brooklyn, NY) - Hazy DIPA
Successful collaboration beer from Weldwerks and Other Half with an excellent hazy DIPA with lots of mango, orange, grapefruit flavors but also good piney, earthy counterbalance and a dry, low-to-medium bitter finish.
The choices at the brewery we serenaded last night. I thought the Czech lager was a bit flat, and the Kölsch a bit of a disappointment. If I had a greater overall capacity for beer, I’d have loved to try the Sommersalz (surprisingly not listed here), a sour beer with sea salt and hints of grapefruit. They also had a Schwarzbier that sounded great. Maybe next time we’ll do a flight.
Lord Vorlauf by Armistice Brewing Company (Richmond, CA) - Triple IPA
Full of pineapple, green mango and tangerine flavors which are quite prominent before piney, resiny taste come in and end with a dry, medium bitter finish. Surprisingly smooth mouthfeel for a WCIPA and quite crushable despite the ABV
Mai Tai - Black Label by Alvarado Street Brewery (Monterey, CA) - Triple IPA
That’s getting pretty close to a “perfect” WCTIPA - notes of apple, orange and mango nicely balanced by piney, resiny flavors with hints of floral notes in the background. Dry, low-to-medium bitter finish. Way to easy to drink for a triple IPA
ETNYC Proudly Presents The Real Mexican Cake by Evil Twin Brewing NYC (Ridgewood, NY) and Westbrook Brewing Company (Mount Pleasant, SC) - Imperial Pastry Stout)
Interesting play on some Mexican flavors with chocolate notes quite prominent but not overly sweet, roasted flavors, cinnamon and vanilla more in the back but still noticeable. The habanero flavor adds a bit of mild, lingering heat and pairs well with the slightly bitter finish. Good pastry stout which isn’t very sweet.
