Nice when a barley wine isn’t so alcohol forward.
Praying for My Haters by Cooperage Brewing Company (Santa Rosa, CA) - Triple IPA
Smooth triple IPA which starts with citrus forward flavors and some peach and mango notes in the background, before floral, grassy tastes balance it out and a dry, low bitterness finish. ABV is well hidden. Overall rather classical “big” WCIPA
Evil Fusion - Summer Edition by Evil Twin Brewing NYC (Ridgewood, NY) - Smoothie Sour
Interesting summer sour - strong emphasis on the tartness of the sour with some fruitiness from raspberry. The pistachio unfortunately is hardly recognizable and very much in the background. It would have been a great sour if pistachio had played a stronger role but it is still very enjoyable
Batsquatch by Rogue Ales (Newport, OR) - Hazy IPA
Rather “middle of the road” hazy IPA (not in a bad way) which isn’t aiming for extreme fruitiness, hoppiness or bitterness but has some restrained melon, peach, citrus and orange flavors upfront before a floral taste takes over (with some malts in the background) and a dry, medium bitter finish. Very easy to drink
San Jose Churros by Strike Brewing Company (San Jose, CA) - Blonde Ale
Interesting play on a blonde ale with the addition of cinnamon and vanilla (and some lactose). It gets some of the churros flavors without getting into the dessert “range”. Still enough hops and malt flavors with some slight bitterness to walk this fine line. Not a beer to drink every day but quite enjoyable
Juicy Sweeper by Alvarado Street Brewery (Monterey, CA) - Hazy IPA
Juicy, as one would expect from the name, but not as overpowering as expected but relatively moderate with peach as the dominant flavor and notes of orange. Well balanced with piney tastes in the second half and a dry, medium bitter and long lasting finish. Good NEIPA but a but thin, watery mouthfeel
Free Dive by Coppertail Brewing Company (Tampa, FL) - IPA
Rather “classical” IPA with strong notes of citrus and piney with a quite prominent malt backbone which counterbalances the dry, medium-high bitter finish.
The Glow by Cellarmaker Brewing Company (Oakland, CA) - NEIPA
Definition of a crushable NEIPA with pineapple, mango and grapefruit juiciness and some quite restrained grassy, piney notes. Dry, low bitterness finish. Soft mouthfeel and relatively thin, light body.
Killer Dismount by Alvarado Street Brewery (Monterey, CA) - Hazy IPA
Quite close to a “classical” balanced NEIPA with upfront juicy flavors of guave, strawberry and lime before a nice counterbalance of piney dankness (without getting too funky). Dry, medium bitter finish - perfect on a hot summer day
Tefnut with Apricot and Passionfruit from The Veil
Brewing Company (Richmond, VA) and Omnipollo (Sundbyberg, Sweden) - Imperial Gose
Outstanding gose with a very thick consistency from tons of apricot and passionfruit but with a very health dose of tartness. Bold, fruity (but not sweet), tart, sour. Hides its ABV very well.
Dark wheat beer and kloster dunkel from Radhaus in Fort Mason. Food was solid too - work event so I didn’t get any food shots.
I had that same Kloster Dunkel at Speisekammer on Sunday. Stuffed cabbage was pretty good too.
Nectaron Westeez by Alvarado Street Brewery (Monterey, CA) - IPA
Interesting mixture of peach, grape and quite a lot of citrus before this IPA turns grassy, piney with a dry, medium bitter finish. Overall quite strong emphasis is on the piney and bitter finish, less on the hops aromatics.
Sound Parade by Fieldwork Brewing Company (Berkeley, CA) - Hazy IPA
Quite citrus forward with lots of grapefruit and some tropical flavors of mango and peach more in the background. Followed by very slightly dank and more grassy/floral notes and a dry, low-to-medium bitter finish. Overall a quite “classical” NEIPA with a very soft mouthfeel
Infinite Stakes by Fieldwork Brewing Company (Berkeley, CA) - Hazy IPA
Quite fruit forward NEIPA with tons of mango, peach and orange flavors with some piney notes in the second half of the sip and a dry, low bitterness finish. Good hazy IPA which gets a bit close of being too sweet and missing some bitterness or dank to balance everything
Cabin Fever by The Drowned Land Brewery (Warwick, NY) - American Barleywine
Wonderful complex sipping barley wine with roasted malt as the backbone, dried fig, caramel, toffee but also hints of refreshing citrus/orange and some slight floral hints. Very dry but hardly any bitterness in the finish just a lingering of the complex flavors.
