Karluv 13 by Schilling Beer Company (Littleton, NH) - Czech Dark Lager
Schilling is well known for their many European style beers and this Czech black lager is another great example - dark roasted malts, cocoa, chocolate, some light spicy herbal notes and slight sweetness at the beginning of the sip with a growing bitterness towards the finish. Excellent czech black lager
Chaos by Mortalis Brewing Company (Avon, NY) - Imperial Coffee Stout
Very smooth imperial coffee stout which has a strong chocolate flavor from the cocoa nibs (ganache like) with only hints of coffee in the beginning. The chocolate flavor never gets particularly sweet as there is a quite pronounced bitterness which gets the balance really well. Slight alcohol burn in the finish. Outstanding stout.
Hop Gun by Funky Buddha Brewery (Oakland Park, FL) - IPA
Relatively mild middle-of-the-road IPA with typical grapefruit and lime flavors coupled with some piney and lightly floral notes later added on. Slightly malt sweetness later in the sip before a dry, medium bitter finish. Easy to drink but also isn’t overly unique/special
Luminescence by Florida Avenue Brewing Company (Wesley Chapel, FL) - Hazy IPA
Classical hazy IPA profile with pineapple and orange but not really sweet before a lot of dankness takes over. Interesting finish which is dry and quite bitter but as the bitterness fades away bready malt notes start to come forward and linger for quite some time.
Pigeon Soup by Other Half Brewing Company (Brooklyn, NY) - Hazy DIPA
Very creamy mouthfeel with the addition of oats and a strong pineapple and tangerine flavor upfront which gets quite dank later on before a dry, quite bitter and long lasting finish. Overall really nice hazy IPA
Was looking forward to this Kellerbier. As is the case with so many lagers and pilsners in this country, this was so inappropriately hoppy I switched it for my PIC’s Kölsch
Pulp Friction by Motorworks Brewing (Bradenton, FL) - IPA
Not surprising for an IPA with added grapefruit, this beer turns out to be very grapefruit-forward which “covers up” most other nuances of an IPA. Only in the finish the very dry and quite bitter flavors start to become prominent over the grapefruit taste. On one side a very easy to drink IPA but also too one-dimensional with the dominant grapefruit (which should be dialed down to get it more overall balanced)
NBD. As you see from my rather intermittent participation in this thread, I don’t drink a lot of beer in the US — even in Germany, my beer consumption has gone down.
Martinis, scotch, and wine are more in my wheelhouse.
Carrie Kölsch from BG Brewing in Braddock, PA. We picked up a couple of cans at a beer store in Hershey recently, thinking we were headed to a BYOB for dinner. We were mistaken
I really liked this a lot. It went perfectly with stir-fried bok choy and har gow & XLB. Maybe the best Kölsch I’ve had stateside (pssst, don’t tell our local brewery ).
Melcher Street by Trillium Brewing Company (Canton, MA) - IPA
Kind of “elegant” IPA with a very good balance between citrus flavors, dank/piney notes, some subtle sweetness from the malt and a medium bitterness in the finish. Even the carbonation is well dialed in to give a good mouthfeel. Very good IPA.
60 Minute IPA by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, DE) - IPA
Quite well known and “classic” WCIPA with heavy notes on citrus/grapefruit, resin/piney with plenty of bitterness in the finish. It’s not as complex as their 90 minutes IPA but still very drinkable
Dr. Juice by Parish Brewing Company (Broussard, LA) - Hazy IPA
Could be a good introduction to NEIPA for many with its low bitterness in the finish, plenty of juiciness, with cantaloupe and watermelon very dominant, and a backbone of soft wheat flavor.
