Stereo Sets - The Red Tape by 3 Sons Brewing Company (Dania Beach, FL) - Red IPA
Good combination of a red ale and ipa with stronger notes roasted malts upfront before some fruity, hoppy flavors take over without getting to dominate and maintaining some malt notes. Very slightly sweet finish with hardly any bitterness.
Bind by Anchorage Brewing Company (Anchorage, AK) - Wild Ale
Most sours are kettle sours and so it is always great to have a wild ale/sour as it brings in much more nuances and character. This one is a great example with plenty of funk from the wild ale which is even more elevated from the addition of blueberry and haskap berry which adds some slight sweetness and fruitiness without dominating - fantastic sour.
Supermassive Cafe Deth by Revolution Brewing (Chicago, IL) - Imperial Coffee Stout
Wonderful sipping stout aged in barrel cask with plenty of roasted coffee, caramel, vanilla and chocolate. There is a hint of sweetness on the background without being distracting. Surprisingly easily drinkable for 15% ABV
Viper by Alvarado Street Brewery (Monterey, CA) - DIPA
WCIPA which also shows some fruity characteristics if a NEIPA - starts with flavors of grapefruit, lime, grapes and some tropical notes before it gets very resinous and piney. Dry, low bitterness finish makes it a refreshing and easy to drink mix between east and west coast
Turok Juice by Cellarmaker Brewing Company (Oakland, CA) - NEIPA
Very clean tasting NEIPA with strong flavors of passionfruit (and some hints of tangerine) upfront before some piney notes help to bring in some balance. Low bitterness finish which still retains some of the passionfruit flavors.
Skazetrip by Alvarado Street Brewery (Monterey, CA) - NEIPA
Really nice 1-2 punch of medley of strong tropical flavors ranging from guava, lime, peach, pineapple followed by plenty of dankness and strong herbal flavors. Quite bold hazy IPA.
Querido y Perdido by Casita Brewing Company (Wilson, NC) - Imperial Stout
Impressive imperial stout with layers and layers of flavors - roasted malts with notes of roasted coffee build the backbone whereas at different times flavors of cinnamon, vanilla, dark chocolate and cocoa appear and disappear leading to a complex flavor profile which gets elevated by a slight spiciness from the chili which always stays in the background but is also always recognizable. Good balance also between some sweetness at the beginning of the sip and some bitterness from the cocoa towards the end. Even though there are many competing flavors ultimately they work well together.
Molotov Cocktail NYV Version by Evil Twin Brewing NYC (Ridgewood, NY) - Triple Hazy IPA
Triple IPA with 12% ABV but surprisingly subdued flavors - mainly orange with some peach and mango in the background but not too sweet, followed by grassy, herbal notes and a low bitterness finish without any alcohol burn. Drinks way too easy for a triple but could also be a bit more pronounced.
Slushy XL Hays by 450 North Brewing Company (Columbus, IN) - Fruited Smoothie Sour
Really good smoothie sour which has plenty of tartness from the sour and avoids the common mistake of such smoothie sour to “forget” the sour part. Also interesting fruit combinations of peach, papaya and prickly pear with some hints of vanilla.
Timeland by Cellarmaker Brewing Company (Oakland, CA) - IPA
Very classic WCIPA with strong upfront citrus flavors before quite heavy pine notes take over to give the beer a distinct dank taste with some light floral notes in the background. Dry, medium bitter finish.
Eighth Gospel by Laughing Monk Brewing (San Francisco, CA) - Belgian Quadrupel
Surprisingly light belgian quadruple even at 11% ABV with a nice lightly roasted malt backbone with notes of toffee. Some caramel sweetness which stay subdued but is noticeable. Complex mixture of flavors ranging from raisins, plums, spices and herbal and even some smokiness. Low bitterness in the finish. Wonderful complex beer, perfect for slow sipping
Juice Tube from Humble Sea out of Santa Cruz, CA. Really good triple hazy IPA. Rich and a little sweet but not too boozy, with a lot of citrus and grapefruit-like bitterness to balance.
Orange Creamsicle by Great Notion Brewery (Portland, OR) - Milkshake IPA
Like drinking at liquid orange creamsicle ice cream with a bitter finish. The orange flavor is a bit too prominent and slightly artificial tasting and with a lactose addition this milkshake IPA gets slightly too sweet despite the bitter finish.
Haze Cadet by Great Notion Brewing (Portland, OR) - Hazy IPA
Interesting hazy IPA which tastes a lot like weed with plenty of dank flavors. It starts as expected with some fruity orange and peach notes but quickly turns to this quite intense cannabis/weed/dank flavor which stays throughout the finish which has very low bitterness. Interesting and unusual flavor profile an NEIPA
