We last ate here last year, on the patio. See our notes here.
This time around we did take-out as we were visiting a friend in Etobicoke. As she is Muslim, we ordered nothing with pork. Most dishes remained yummy and travelled pretty well. Bonus points for everything coming in recyclable or compostable containers.
Khachapuri: homemade bread, filled with melted cheese, topped with butter, garlic, and herbs - delicious.
Varenyky: pierogies, filled with potato and dry cottage cheese, topped with caramelized onions and served with sour cream on the side - good, but needed a little salt.
Pelmeni: delicate dumplings, filled with minced chicken, served with sour cream - lovely supple wrapper and nicely flavoured filling.
Nalysnyky: - blintz-like crepes filled with the same minced chicken, served with sour cream and nice mushroom sauce - possibly best dish of the night.
Village Potato Pancake: potato pancakes, mozzarella, mushroom, onion, garlic - tasty, but not quite as interesting.
Stuffed Chicken Schnitzel, with tomato, mozzarella, and mushroom, served with a side dish of grilled peppers, zucchini, mushrooms) - good, though with travel it had lost the crispness of the schnitzel.
Marinated cucumbers, with garlic and dill - a refreshing oasis amongst heavier dishes.
Pickled beet salad with sesame seeds - simple and another lighter option.
Homemade chocolate layer cake with raspberries and blackberries - pretty good, though a bit dry. Not too sweet.
Honey cake with plums - still a standout, with tangy fruit.
Syrnyky: sweet cottage cheese pancakes (3), served with your choice of sour cream, honey, maple syrup, or vanilla greek yogurt - a new favourite, with the rich pancakes elevated by the accompaniment.
